In the past I’ve had issues motivating myself to paint. Some of the people in the club I’m part of have decided that it’d be pretty cool to have the introduction to 8th edition WHFB be an escalation league. The idea is we play 2 weeks at each point level. The first week your points only have to be built. But the second week, everything has to be painted. That might be sufficient motivation for everyone else, but I’m still afraid I may find excuses not to paint and fall behind.

That being said, I figure posting my progress here is a great way to keep myself motivated. We haven’t started the league yet, but it will start soon, and so here it goes!

This is what I’ve got from my week of off and on working. Here’s my first box of Empire models!

And here's the rest of my first 500 points...still in it's boxes. Sheesh, I have my work cut out for me.

And my first halberdiers!

I also got started on my cannon. I didn't want to have to deal with trying to paint the actual cannon and the carriage assembly together, so I painted up the whole thing since it needed to be built for the first week of the league. I've got 2 pictures of progress, and then 2 of it finished! Also, the crew is all nice and built up.

And here are the pictures of the finished cannon!

That's all for now! More pictures coming as I get some guys done! I've got a lot of work ahead of me.

I know it's WAY later than my first post, but I felt it impotant to say the army (and my motivation) is NOT dead. I was off by a week for figuring when the league started. As it turns out, I'm in charge of the escalation league and we ran our first battle last night. That being said, pictures of the fully assembled army will be forth coming, along with a link to the relevant battle report.

So, in case any one cared, the more regular updates start later today!

Nice work so far! You're a far smarter man than I in painting the cannon un-assembled.

I'm really digging the color for the iron bits - I take it you used Boltgun Metal + Badab Black wash?
