I don't know to much about warmachine yet but I am experienced warhammer player, both fantasy and 40k and was interested by the cool models and low buy in price of warmachine. if I were to start menoth, where would be a good place to start if I were to buy the starter set and maybe a few additional units. just to be able to play smallish size games. From what I've heard, menoth units are quite adept at setting opponents on fire? I don't how useful that is but I'd love to have a themed "cleansing flame" army if possible.

In your head, screwing with your thoughts...

I don't know Menoth, but as for fire it is indeed very useful. If you set something on fire it takes damage every turn until they get rid of it. Get the battlebox of course, and you should also get the 2010 Menoth Stat Card Deck, because that's functionally the Menoth codex. They have an army book too, but you really only need the cards to play. I would also advise you to get the Prime MK2 rulebook, since it's, ya know, the main rulebook...

Echoing DRD, fire's a beautiful thing. Not only does it cause a POW 12 hit every round until it goes out, it does so before Focus is added to armor, making it a great assassination tool against lighter armored casters.

If you enjoy the thought of setting the world aflame, then one of the Feoras is probably your best bet. pFeora specialises in setting things on fire herself, with spells like Immolation and Wall of Fire to do some direct damage, along with Blazing Effigy to clear out infantry swarming your 'Jacks (or infantry that your Jacks just ran up to). Her feat even sets everything within a foot of her on fire. Much more of a melee beatstick than her epic version due to Engine of Destruction, which turns her into a SPD 8 MAT 10 PnS 17 killing machine.

Her epic version, on the other hand, is much more focused on her 'Jacks and Flame Guard. With her 'Jack bond (typically on a Redeemer), she can spread fire around the table with ease, and the TFG she loves so much also join in the fun. With spells like Escort and Convection, she's much better at supporting 'Jacks than her prime (well, Escalation) version. She still loves fire, of course, with any fires within a foot of her refusing to go out, and her feat piles focus on her and her jacks based on the number of fires in her control area. She's still pretty good at assassination herself, due to her feat and Fire Step, which lets her teleport short distances to get that charge just right.

If you do go with one of the Feoras, they both enjoy having Temple Flame Guard around: Ignite makes them hit a bit harder, and they'll never run while in her command range. Exemplar of any sort aren't a bad choice either, as making them hit harder is really just adding insult to injury (the fires spread by the Cinerators is wonderful with eFeora, too).

'Jack choice for the two is only a bit different: Both love their lights, either for Blazing Effigy or to turn them into SPD 8 missiles using Escort. Heavies work well with both, and I'm personally a fan of the Avatar. Free focus is always nice, and while it can't benefit from eFeora's Escort, it's an amazing target for Blazing Effigy. Finally, always, always, ALWAYS take a Redeemer with eFeora for her jack bond. Being able to spread fires with your wonderfully inaccurate rocket fire is a beautiful thing.

Echoing what others have said I would take a hard look at efeora. She loves fire and when within 12 inches of her it never goes out unless the model is dead. Her feat also lets you move the fire tokens around so if you need to on her fea turn you can take it off jacks or models you think you are going to kill that turn, and put it on other stuff where it will do more damage. Nothing like an opponents face when their caster is on fire and the only way it might go out is f they run far away from your caster, it has the ability to kill high def caster with low arm outright in a couple of turns and even high armor casters can get softered up nicely with just one or two good damage rolls.

I have recently started menoth. I have a 20 point list which I enjoy and it has in it the battlebox, a vigilante light jack and a set of flameguard cleansers. The cleansers and flamer jack (from the battlegroup) just run in and set thing son fire, usually with the cleansers using their order to make AOE cloads of fire around the enemies. While the vigilante protects himself and the caster from enemy circular template attacks. He's quite awesome, basically he's pretty tough to kill and he's not too bad in combat either. He attacks the enemy by wacking them in the face with his 2 huge shields. My caster helps feth up nemy plans, he also has an aesome feat. Feats are a once per game ability btw. Kreoss's is that everybody in his control range (within 14" of him) gets knocked down, this means that they have to forfit movement or attack to get up next turn, and also that while knocked down, they get hit instantly in melee combat. This is awesome, because if the enemy caster comes close enough to kreoss, he just pops his feat, runs in and smacks the enemy caster 7 times, which is pretty much always enough to kill them, unless you get really bad rolls. The other light jack has an arc node which meens you can cast through him, basically making your spells much longer range, he also has a shield which deflects enemies so they can basically only attack him once per turn. The heavy jack is tough and durable, he also hits hard and can scrap most light jacks in a turn if you put enough focus on him. If you have any other questions feel free to ask.
