Just got Assault on Black reach and considering what colour scheme to paint my Space marines, I was torn between the Ultramarines and the Iron Hands but rather than choose I decided to make my own Chapter. (I saw how Ice Angel posted his chapter and thought it was a good method)

The Homeworld of the Forge Marines, 'Gallion' was notable for the long Campaign that reintegrated it into the Imperium after a long separation following Warp Storms. Elements of the Iron Hands and Ultramarines were active during the campaign which saw Imperial forces be held back by the ten Forge Fortresses which were built into the ten highest mountains of Gallion. The natives employed constant artillery bombardment of the front lines combined with Guerilla warfare in the variable terrains of Gallions which one Imperial Guard Colonel remarked 'Everytime we expected an ambush we were hit with artillery shells and every time we dug in to defend against artillery we would lose a man to sniper fire'. Following ten years of combat Gallion voluntarily rejoined the Imperium following talks with the Mechanicus in which Gallion would become a Forgeworld in exchange for a Chapter being founded based on Gallion.
The Forge Marines are notable for their laid back demeanour, unexpected in a Chapter descended from both Ultramarines and Iron hands. Often calm even in the most heated of fire fights they have been known to even banter with members of the Imperial Guard despite being under heavy fire, this laid back demeanour however should not be mistaken for laxity in their duties as enemies who have tried to take advantage of Marines they believed weren't paying much attention found themselves suddenly confronted with a small fortress's worth of hidden defences or a rapid counter attack.
Forge Marines after completing their initiation will lose their right hand and half of their right forearm and have it replaced with a cybernetic appendage. This practice is based around the Forge Marines close relationship with both Imperium and Mechanicus and was started when the First Forge Marines Chapter Master Cu Culaine during his first address to his chapter cut off his own right arm and ordered a Chapter techmarine to attach an augemtic replacement while he made his speech telling his men "We sacrifice our flesh for the Emperor then Commemorate that sacrifice by honouring the Ommnissah". Forge Marine doctrine dictates that except for the removal of a portion of the right arm after becoming a Full Forge Marine, Forge Marines should only get augmetic replacements for severe battle wounds as otherwise in the words of Chapter Master Culaine it would be "A waste of Emperor Given Flesh".
The Forge Marines followed in the Ultramarines footsteps by helping Gallion establish colonies on the previously uninhabited worlds of the Slieve system which had never been colonised before due to a feral Ork problem. Following this the People of Gallion abolished their previous leadership system and installed the Forge Marines as their Leaders hoping to create a paradise such as that enjoyed by Ultramar. However the Ultramarines and Forge Marines do not have the best relationship stemming from an incident during the defence of an imperial world from a nearby sector. Elements from the Ultramarines and the Entire Forge Marine 4th Company were in orbit above the planet, prior to descending to the planet and Ultramarine Sargent noted that the Forge Marines had not performed any battle rites or called upon the Emperor to guide them to victory, A Forge Marine Sargent responded "The Emperor is a vastly powerful being whose will can manifest on a million worlds while he guides every ship in the Imperium with the Astronomican, so if you feel the need to waste time by trying to get the Emperor's attention to a battle he probably already knows about be my guest, but while you do I shall go kill his enemies...."
The Forge Marines were nearly wiped out when a WAAGH! led by Warboss Longshoota attacked the Slieve system followed by and assault by a Chaos Warband. Chapter Master Culaine divided his forces sending most of the Companies to battle the very large Ork force which had landed on Gallion itself, while Culaine took the First and 5th company with the Chapter's Main Battle Barge, the
Neit, to the planet Bentee. The Chaos Warband was led by an Aspiring Champion of Khorne known as Cassius the Cruel, Culaine in a move which stunned his Marines challenged Cassius to a Duel where Cassius could pick the place. Cassius chose a field next to the fortress he had taken. Culaine left the weapons of Chapter master on the
Neit and descended to the planet with a pair of chainswords. The fight between the Chapter Master and Champion raged for 6 hours with many of the Chaos warband gathering to watch the battle, the First Company had wanted to accompany the Chapter Master but were told by Culaine that they were not allowed to leave until the fight was finished.
After a gruelling Battle Culaine slew Cassius, impaling both of his swords into Cassius' chest. The Warband who had gathered to watch drew their guns, it is said that when faced with the firing squad of hundreds of heretics and traitors, Culaine in true Forge Marine fashion, chuckled.
The Warband gunned down Culaine, and then realised why Culaine final breath had been used to laugh, their Champion lay dead and the Drop pods of the First Company descended on their heads. The slaughter that followed claimed every member of the Warband and all but one member of the First Company, Captain Denaan who had led the First into the bloodbath was recovered by the Fifth and interred into a Dreadnought, the First Dreadnought of the Forge Marines. The fifth raced to aid their brothers against the Orks, but arrived to late, in the six hours Culaine had fought Cassius a Battle which would forever scar the surface of Gallion took place 8 Companies of the Forge Marines battled Untold Legions of Greenskins with the Cannons of the Forge Fortresses of Gallion howling War Cries at their back and the screams of a WAAGH facing them, the 8 Companies were all but decimated.
The Commander of the Fifth Eoin Bell was made Chapter Master as he commanded the only Company left standing. the new First Company has harboured feelings of rejection and regret having been ordered to stay on the Neit by both Culaine and Denann and missing the chance to help their brothers, they now endeavour to rebuild the broken Slieve system and endeavour to purge any Orks they come across as well as having a particular animosity towards the followers of Khorne.
