I managed to get a hold of the old chimera kit a few months ago and have finally had time to work on it but am now stuck!

The aim of this conversion is to turn the chimera into a Halftrack and make as many different vehicles as possible.

So I am now calling upon the almighty powers of the internet to help me!

Here are my three problems:
1. Wheels, as you can see, they are missing; does anybody know any way to scratch build any?
2. A cannon; the Basilisk needs a cannon and I am out of inspiration, what kind of household objects I could use?
3. If possible, I'd like to try and make the Basilisk cannon interchangeable with a shorter one and then also have a Colossus.

But now, on to the pictures!

Halftrack

Devil Dog (actually, a Salamander Scout with two Gaunt's Ghosts riding on the back with a "Tread-Fether")

Hydra (I know, there are normally 4 Auto cannons but I only had 2, just imagine he shoots really well)

Griffon

Manticore (In case, you're wondering, 2 missiles have already been fired; yes, I only had 2 of them, I admit it)

Group picture

Basilisk (I'm trying to give it a WW2 tank Grant sort of look)

Even if you don't have answers to my quite specific questions, comments and criticism is more than welcome!

It's looking good. I like the inter changeable aspect of all this. Can't wait to see what it looks like all done.
Although for the Hydra have you ever considered something like this?

What you could do is take the seat part from a sentinel and the pilot, build them, and then attach it somehow to the autocannon defense battery from the Aegis defense line kit, and then attach it to the back of your hull.

I really like the idea! i think the Griffon is a bit on the smallish side.

Thanks for the replies!

@Whitewolf01
Actually, with the american M16 Halftrack, the sdkfz was my first inspiration! So yes, I had completely considered doing something like that!
After, I tried to do something resembling more the Oerlikon 20mm cannon since I lacked the parts required.

@alarmingrick
I was afraid about this size issue too but with GW"s (and many model manufacturers) weapon proportions, compared to real-life it would be at least an 81mm mortar, and that's not small.
So I agree with you but since I didn't have any alternatives I had to stick with this.

1.If you have any large wheels all you need to do is add treads to them using plastic card (Alternating).

2.A pen tube with some sort of muzzel break, plastic tubing, metal tubing.

3.You could using magnets.

all of those tanks expopse their crew too much, you may want to add armor shielding to them.

I like what you did with the ballisk, I have been thinking of something similar for a while except turreted.

Here is the completed Basilisk. I just used an old pen I had lying around for quite some time now and put it to good use, it's now starting a career as an Earthshaker Cannon!

I've abandoned the idea of also making it a Colossus, 6 different vehicles are already enough I suppose.

Now time to get painting!

The standard for GW modellers has been to use the same wheels found on space marine bikes, or I suppose now the new Ork stuff but I think they would be too small. Look outside of 40k and find someone who builds regular military models to get yourself a pair of wheels suited for a deuce-and-a-half or other military truck.
1:35 scale jeep kits are pretty cheap too, and those wheels might make a pretty good match. I've got a 1:35 M151 jeep I originally intended to use for an Ork buggy and I think they would work well

For the Emperor! Kill Maim Burn!... I mean purge the unclean!

Thanks for the advice, I'll look into it.

Zinge Industries is another good source as they have different sized military wheels, and the hub caps for them! Zinge is a Dakka-ite so you would be supporting the community a bit.
