Certainly some novel ideas in there, though this looks to be a very alpha build. I'm surprised their chosen direction was an action beatemup, but it looks like it works. As an aside I truly do hate the open source library of gun sounds this game uses. They sounded ok when half life came out, but they are really just not cutting it any more. Hopefully they're just placeholders, khadoran and cygnarian weapons shouldn't sound like bad recordings of real world firearms.

I dunno... while it seems pretty cool, I feel pretty "meh" about it. It almost seems like the actual warjacks are an afterthought. Seriously, wtf would a warcaster be up front fighting a juggernaught? I cant think of too many instances in the background material where the caster actually goes up against an enemy jack directly, and I can think of even fewer instances where it works out well for the caster. He has two jacks in his battlegroup, why didn't he use them?
Also, the environment doesn't really do much to convey a sense of urgency IMO. Yeah there's some people shooting at one another, but the overall rate of fire seems pretty low and there isn't too much background noise like explosions, screaming and yelling, etc.

Clearly he's eStriker, and everyone eStriker Beefs warjacks =P.

It looks pretty decent, but it would have to improve a lot to get me to buy it, for starters I never saw a choice of which faction you wanted to play as in the storyline, also no dialougue, which you need for a good campaign. Another thing is that the player seampt to simply control the caster, and the jacks in my view just seampt to get in the way of his view. I'd get pretty annoyed at that, responding to somebody else saying about the caster not running in, you've got to remember this is just a first level to draw people into the game, it's probably what they will use in a demo (if they have one) to draw non wargamers to play it. For example somebody who's never heard of warmachine wouldn't know theconcept of trying to keep your caster safe, so what I'm guessing they've done is overpowered the first caster in the introductory mission, to mkae things simpler. Reminds me much of an old Matrix game where you got to mess around on a first level, without actually interfering with the story, it was just to get you used to the controls, get me?

I think this is going to be a total flop to be honest. They went entirely the wrong direction with this, it's like the lord of the rings console style gameplay instead of something more involved with your ability to command jacks (which may come). I would've thought a cutting edge Final Fantasy Tactics style would've been MUCH more productive and profitable for this particular game.
Looked interesting, but I'll wait to judge until we have something besides a pre-alpha. IIRC, the guys at WMD said they might have something resembling a real game by next GenCon. Pretty confident in the studio tho, considering the lead's from the Fallout team, and a lot of the rest are from the MoH franchise.

Fire Warrior was crap. Anyone who thinks it's "awesome", well...I wouldn't trust their opinion on games. Ever.
Anyway, seems to be a lot of negativity for what's pretty much an alpha build. This is nowhere close to what the finished product will be like, so the sounds likely are placeholders, their might be other playable races or characters, etc. Not to say that the end game will have everything everyone wants in it, I'm just saying you shouldn't write the thing off just yet. Personally I'm surprised, I was expecting another strategy game like Dawn of War (which I admittedly would have passed up on, not a big strategy game fan and I'm not interested in another DoW game with a Warmachine skin over it), but they opted to make it a beat-'em-up instead, which has piqued my interest at least. I'm always a sucker for those games, especially a game that lets you lead around two giant robots to blow stuff up for you while you're beating crap up with a sword.
If nothing else I applaud them for even showing us this. If they were GW they would have just showed a crappy 30 second video of a 3D render of the warcaster or something with "COMING SOON" at the end, with pretty much no info about the gameplay whatsoever other than "It might have Cygnar in it as a playable race!", and "It's Warmachine! It's going to be awesome! We're all very excited."

Actually, there's guaranteed to be other playable factions/characters: White Moon Dream said in their NQ interview that they plan to have Menoth, Khador, Cryx, and Cygnar at the very least represented (although they didn't mention Ret), with multiple Warcasters playable for each.
Commanding warjacks and infantry should be fun. While infantry just follow general orders AFAICT, you can actually possess your warjacks, with a defensive-minded AI taking over your caster while you do so, and the Jack continuing your last order once you plop back to the caster.

Considering that they haven't even announced a tentative release schedule yet and are planning on releasing a more in depth trailer next GenCon, I figure their AI should get a bunch of work before launch.
Sarcasm apearently was turned all the way up there.
Firewarrior is the most amazing game evar!!!wtflolrotflbbq
This game will pale in comparison to such an elequente and well designed game./sarcasm
No truly i think this game will be good. Privateer is not a huuuuge company and hopefully will hold the developer to the same high standards that they adhere to. They are talking about Beta being playable around gencon next year.

Early builds are looking promising.. I'm a multimedia designer and i can tell you that games can take bloody ages to get going.. 90% of game projects ALWAYS fail because they lack the skills or they lack the actual planning, and just make a utter mess of things with the design in general...
