Ok so I started a blog a few months ago which sadly fell to the way side due to work so now I have settled into the new job I'm planning to get back into the process of working on my models and so started this blog to help keep me working forward with my two main projects. So what are the two projects you ask well as the title says my imperial fists and my skaven. I've been working on my fists for the last 8 or 9 months and have a reasonable 1800 points worth painted up but just like every one else I have a few hundred points worth unpainted and/or unassembled. My skaven how ever are a new project with the release of the new WHFB I wanted to start a fantasy army and I had been planning to go with either skaven, beast men or warriors of chaos the new skaven models in the game box obviously tipped the scales.

So here's the first part of the blog initial plans for the imperial fists, I have been planning to finish my redeemer for the last couple of months but still it sat mostly untouched on my desk but i have finally got the base yellow to a point where I'm really happy with it and I'm now starting to work on the rest of it before highlighting and jumping into the world of weathering. Here is how its
looking so far

Now I know what your thinking "why all the gaps listrel, why not fill them in?" well I'll be perfectly honest lazyness was the factor the factor there I rushed the assembly and I'll live with that for now I'm focusing purely on the paint job with this one. I'm adding a second land raider to my collection which is going to be one of the main focuses of this blog and will be modelled to a much higher standard more on that later though.

Now this land raider and the second which will be coming soon are intended as the transport for my assault terminators and Lysander, now this is the only picture i have them at the moment i'll get some better ones soon.

Now as you can see the paint job here is far from great and I like to think I can do much better than this so I shall be reworking these guys especially Lysander him self. I'm not going to strip them and start again I'll simply rework the yellow add washes and highlights and work better on the details. Also I'll be adding 5 more terminators to the squad to give me the option of a full 10 man thunderhammer + storm shield squad because lets face it you just can't have enough of them now can you ? This actually brings me to my first question, I like the storm shields in the assault terminator box but I want some thing a little more impressive any suggestions where I could look for some alternative shields ?

Now the second land raider this promises to be my biggest project to date, current plans are to magnetise the weapon system to allow me to use it as a standard land raider or a crusader as I have the bolters left over from the previous redeemer kit I used. I haven't done any thing like this before so it will be a voyage of discovery for me hopefully i wont just mess the whole thing up.

Any way on to the skaven not much to tell you about here this is a slow work in progress and i have simply started with a battalion box set to which I shall add the isle of blood skaven models to some time next month. The biggest project in the pipe line for these guys is my old style metal screaming bell which I plan to bulk out and combine with screaming bell parts from the new plastic kit . Obviously size will be an issue as the new kit is much larger then the old one but I look forward to seeing what I can come up with hopefully with a little help from you guys.

So for now I'll leave you with my first WIP skaven claw leader

Still a work in progress not happy with certain parts such as the sword and the face, but what do you think of the colour scheme?

Any way I have rambled for long enough now lots planned I just hope I can keep up with the projects I have planned I'll be starting with finishing that first land raider and then work from there. As always C&C most welcome and I think required.

Thanks, Listrel

First off the yellow on all your guys appears to be wonderfully bright and crisp. In my experience this is worth congratulations in and of its self.

For shields FW has the Black Templar shields http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer-40000/BLACK-TEMPLARS-TERMINATOR-STORM-SHIELDS.html
Chapterhouse has more variety but are US based http://chapterhousestudios.com/webshop/component/virtuemart/?page=shop.browse&category_id=18
I don't know how big any of them are but they should work.

The scheme on the Skaven looks good but to be honest is awfully common. The only glaring problem is to sharp of shading on the sword.

Your right the sword is awful at the moment on him that's getting some attention soon. As for the shields thanks for the pointers I'll check out chapter house later today I had already considered the forge world shields I just wish they did other chapter ones other then Black Templar. As for the yellow thanks originally my yellow was very bright but recently I have been opting for a dirtier worn yellow more like the redeemer.

Small update, I have been making some progress with the redeemer I've made a start on the metallic areas having finished base coating them black I added bolt gun metal followed by a heavy wash of badab black. The gold areas were painted with formula P3 Umbral umber up through snakebite leather then brushed with dwarf bronze followed by shining gold and a very light dry brush of mithril silver before washing with gryphonne sepia. I then started some highlighting on the yellow, my recipe for the yellow highlights starts with golden yellow for the basic layer followed by sunburst yellow for the edge highlights and finally bleached bone for the extreme edges. Here's how it stands at the moment

So the body work is coming along the way I want it to now I have to decide what to do with the marine in the top hatch with the multimelta. Now ordinarily i would stick with the standard yellow scheme of the rest of my army but I think all the yellow could be a bit too much and maybe he could be an opportunity to brake it up a little, I have seen people commenting on the fact that the crew are tech marines so technically should have red armour any opinions on the matter? Advice and ideas always wanted.

Thanks Listrel.
