Metroid: Other M released today, I've been playing it for the last few hours, and I find the control setup to be extremly akward, the graphics are on par with other wii games, and the story is good. But I cant seem to get over the akwardness of the controler, I think they should have made this game compatible with the classic controller. What are your guys thoughts.

I havnt played it, but if its set up like most the other FPS types on the Wii I agree. I always find the way you point to the sides of the screen to move the view really weird and awkward.

I liked Corruption a lot.
Does it handle like that? It took some getting used to... did you change your settings at all? Turning your sensitivity up or down can make a huge difference.

Other M is actually a side-scroller made by Team Ninja. So no, I can't imagine that it has anywhere near the same controls as the Metroid Prime Trilogy for the Wii.
If it did, this would explain the OP's complaints.

Its actually some sort of horrendious abomination of both a first person and a third person shooter. When you hold the controlller sideways your in 3rd person mode and can move and jump and sort of shoot. When you hold the controller like normal you are in first person mode and can shot, and fire missles, but you cant move...

Heh. I was going to point that out too...
Metacritic has pretty nice things to say about it though.

What I always thought was missing from Metroid was turning Samus into just another anime character.
It was always silly to allow the player to feel like they were Samus and telling the story that way.

All the original Nintendo protagonists were anime characters. Take a look at the original artwork on those instruction booklets.

Talking about how Samus was portrayed in game. In picture form she has been portayed all sorts of different ways. I also didn't pick the term anime by accident becuase this one has anime style animation, not manga style drawings. She has always been a silent protagonist that was much more of a stand in for the player. There weren't cut scenes as you were playing out the adventure, not watching a movie with gameplay segments. Usually it might pan to show a boss but that was about it.

Wow, so much hate for this game. Am I the only one that's enjoying it immensely?
Personally, I love the control scheme - having played both the Prime series and the original side-scrollers, I can say this is a pretty good medium between the two. It retains the classic 3rd-person platforming of the older games, but lets you go to first-person for precision aiming/scanning and such. And while I'm kind of iffy about not being able to move at all (short of a dodge move, which lets you know that you need to go back into 3rd person to move) it's really not hard to rapidly switch between modes to take on enemies. I've really been enjoying it thus far, especially the changes made to the ammo system. (Missiles can be restored by 'concentrating' for a few seconds, and power bombs are just on a cooldown system)
The only complaint I've got is that the voice acting is so-so. The current actress for Samus is kind of awkward in her delivery of the lines.

Oh I'm not hating the game, it is still fun, it is just that some of the things that made the series stand out are not there. The fact that Samus has a voice actress at all being one. It is a style issue, not a game issue.

Its definatly a decent game, i'm just saying that I think they could have done the controlls beter. I would have prefered a game that you could either use the classic controller or the nunchuck with.

My copy arrived from Amazon on Tuesday, but I haven't had time to play it. Hopefully, tomorrow.
I'll give my thoughts, but I'm now very curious about the control scheme.
