Subject: Blood Angels vs Necrons - 1000 points.

Had a 1000 point game versus Necrons at GW Brighton yesterday:-
Valkyrie's Blood Angels
Tycho
5 man Death Company
* 2 Power Weapons
* Power Fist
10 man Tactical Squad
* Rockets
* Plasma Gun
* Plasma Pistol
* Power Weapon
5 man Tactical Squad

Necrons
Lord
* Resurrection Orb
* Phylactery
10 Warriors
10 Warriors
3 Destroyers
3 Destroyers
2 Heavy Destroyers
Tomb Spyder
6 Scarab Swarms
We were playing on a very small table, about 18" by 36" with a couple of 1 storey high wall sections in the center as the only terrain on the board. We rolled for an Annihalation mission with Pitched Battle deployment. He deploys first, keeping the Scarabs in reserve, and deploying the Warriors close to the Lord, who joined one of the squads themselves. The Destroyers set up further back and the Tomb Spyder started on the right flank on a small plateau.
I Combat Squadded the 10 man Tac squad, deploying the Sergeant and Plasma gunner in one team, and the Rockets in the other. These deployed on the right and rear sections respectively. The Dreadnought began in the centre in front of the 5 man team, and Tycho and the Death Company began in the Land Raider on the left flank.
Because this was an Annihalation mission, the Phase Out rule was not in use
I got the first turn.
Turn One
The Land Raider moves forward and trains it's weapons on the Destroyers. The Tactical Squads move up apart from the Rocket team which hangs back to use it's heavy weapon. During the shooting phase, the Dreadnought destroys a Heavy Destroyer, The Land Raider kills one Warrior and a Destroyer, and fire from the Tactical squad takes a wound off the Tomb Spyder. The Rockets down another Warrior.
He loses one Warrior with a failed WBB roll, while the Destroyers train their sights on the approaching Tactical Marines. The Heavy Destroyer manages to stun the Dreadnought, and Gauss Fire from the Warriors destroys a Lascannon on the Land Raider. The Tomb Spyder spawns a Scarab Swarm, and the Destroyers take down 2 Tactical Marines from the 5 man squad.

The Death Company and Tycho down one Warrior with their ranged weapons. The Plasma gunners destroy the Tomb Spyder. Tycho and the Death Company assault the Warriors, downing 7 and taking no wounds in return, with Tycho fluffing all his attacks.
In the Necron turn, 4 Warriors from the assault get back up, and more Gauss fire remove the last weapons from the Land Raider. The Heavy Destroyer moves south and destroys the Dreadnought's Lascannon. The assault continues, with the Death Company wounding 5 more Warriors, but still Tycho fails to wound a single one. They take a wound in return but pass the FnP save.

Turn 3
The Plasma team continue to head north round the right flank, ready to fire on the Destroyers. The Dreadnought relocates east to deal with the other unit of Destroyers, and the other Tactical teams head north. The Plasma team successfully destroy the Destroyer unit, while the Dreadnought downs another from the second unit with it's Missile Launcher. In the assault phase, Tycho yet continues to fail in combat, leaving the Death Company to down the rest of the unit. They consolidate, stopping 1" from the Lord and the second unit of Warriors.
All but two Warriors from the previous assault phase and the lone Destroyer fail their WBB saves. The other unit of Destroyers are too far away to be affected by WBB. The Lord and his unit destroy the Land Raider with massed Gauss fire, and fire from the last Destroyers take the 5 man Tactical Squad down to one man. The Heavy Destroyer misses the Dreadnought. The 3 Warriors left fire at the Death Company, wounding Tycho and felling one DC Marine.

Tycho is wounded by the Lord's Staff of Light.
The Destroyer passes his WBB roll and forms another unit. The Warrior Tycho downed passes his WBB save. 1 Warrior from the 3 man unit survives, denying me the Kill Point. The Scarabs arrive from reserve and Deep Strike to the south, close to the Rocket team. The last Warrior and the Heavy Destroyer manage to bring the Plasma team down to the gunner and the Sergeant. The Destroyer kills the Plasma gunner. In the assault phase, the Death Company down the unit, and Tycho manages to wound the Lord, twice!

The other Sergeant assault and easily dispatches the lone Warrior, and then consolidates towards the other unit. No damage is done to the Destroyers.
The Warrior gets back up again and, with the Heavy Destroyer easily kills the Sergeant. The Scarabs assault the Rocket team, losing two wounds, inflicting none but remaining locked in combat. It was really tense especially as it was on such a small board, meaning that everyone got stuck in straight away.

Please correct me if I misread this, but did you put Tycho with the Death Company - what makes me think this is
"The 3 Warriors left fire at the Death Company, wounding Tycho and felling one DC Marine."
Which makes it sounds like you allocated shooting wounds from the warriors into the DC onto Tycho and he lacks the IC special rule and (like Mephiston) is always a single model...
I could be just misreading though.

I was using Classic Tycho, who does have the IC rule.

He said that the BRB removes Phase Out in Annihilation missions.

I thought Phase Out was always in play regardless of mission type... it's a codex-specific rule, so it should trump the BRB, right? Nonetheless, looks like it was a close match!

I do believe you got played there, sir. I know of no such rule, and I know a thing or two about Necrons. I find that it's good to ask to see things like that in writing.
Good report though!

Seems I did get conned there. I checked the BRB and there was no mention of Phase Out under the Annihilation mission.

In the Necron Codex it states Phase out is waived for 'sustained attack' missions e.g. 'Meat Grinder', but these were 3rd edition missions, and thus there is no way he could claim it would apply to annihilation missions in 5th.

Necorns only phase out when their army has lost 75% of its necron units, this is after we'll be backs happen during the next necron turn ( I'm pretty sure anyway).
He had 29 necrons which mean he phases out at 7.25 rounding off to 7.
If one unit of warriors was above half strength and a destroyer squad was along with one destroyer squad being under half I'm pretty sure he hasnt phased out just yet.
Sorry but up till turn 4 victory still goes to the necrons.

It was either Turn 4 or 5 where he (should have) phased out. Either way, he would have phased out by the end of the game.

Well at least now you know that he can't wave the phase out rule. All in all good job on busting some necron heads, I figured once you got into close combat he was done. Oh and as far as phase out goes, it happens after he rolls his WBB saves, so if you knock him below 25% and then WBB gets him above then he is still good.
