Relax. The series made it through Devil May Cry 2, which is commonly regarded as one of the worst sequels of all time. DMC also made it through the inclusion of Nero, who actually ended up benefitting the style of gameplay greatly.
Now, you're concerned because Dante's hair isn't white? Think about how ridiculous that sounds.

Well, that and the fact that he looks and sounds nothing like Dante. And the fact that the game's developed by the same guys who did the ever forgettable GoW clone Heavenly... what's it called? And the fact that NotDante's traded in his sword for a... chained sword thing that looks like it'll function suspiciously similarly to a certain angry Greecian's weapon of choice, and the fact that the entire visual design of the game is a combination of bland, boring, and ugly.
No, "Dante" looking like a Twilight-inspired reject from 50 Cent: Bulletproof is just icing on an already very gakky looking cake.

So what if hes got black hair and the story looks like its going to be more angst ridden. But I know I never played the series for the story, so as long as it plays like the old games and i don't have to use the stretchy sword the whole time I reckon I'll deal.
Anyway Devil May Cry has always had vague emo undertones especially after 2. But the cigarette on the head should have been awesome, but...
Also, it is supposed to be a reboot so it would be kinda lame if this new Dante was the same as the old, does anyone when else think he is a David Hayter (Solid Snake) sound-alike?

Dante's personality had a huge role to play in why the game was so popular. Who doesn't think Dante is concentrated awesome refined into weapons grade kickassery? Ruin his personality and they're losing something that played a big role in the success of the series (Seen in DMC2, an okay game but a game that didn't succeed as well because it lost some of its flare, Dante's personality being part of that). How much less fun would DMC be without Dante's antics even if gameplay is rock solid?
DMC4 sort of semi-answered that question. Nero was a great fighter, but no where near as entertaining as playing Dante. Not saying I oppose all changes, but stupid changes are stupid changes. I almost as upset he looks like a whiney as I am that he's not swinging around Rebellion, though maybe he will Have Rebellion and they just didn't feel like showing it? The weapon in the video seems to be a shape shifting weapon, or they just showed several one after the toher.

To be fair on him though, he only said two words and he is still Dante, so his personality could still be the same. I just really hope its not all like DMC3 and with Nero where it was all "OMG!!! what the hell is going on here?" and "I'm a badass but seriously, what the hell is going on here?" . I want "I'm a badass, wheres the next big monster?"

He obviously doesn't have the same personality. Otherwise the way he was portrayed in the trailer would be very different. First impressions are very important, and anyone who directs a debut trailer knows that.
The new Dante's an unlikeable, pretentious witch, and Ninja Theory wants us to know it.

For the record, this is a reboot, not a prequel. This is a different Dante.
And considering how this is supposedly tailored for a Western audience, I doubt having him pull a heel-face-turn for the better is in the books. Especially if it means actually evolving from the grim and frowning donkey-cave that seems to be so popular in games today.

I'm hoping it follows the pattern of the series which should be obvious to everyone here.
I might have liked it more if it were a prequel as it doesn't really make sense to reboot it. Though after having things like DMC 2 and 4 in the series I could see them wanting to distance themselves from that
Dante just looks strange.

I would like to take this moment to show another popular series getting "rebooted".
I rest my case.
Edit: I should actually say this about the New Prince of Persia: The Prince/Elika was done masterfully, and I rather liked the art direction, but that was it. Gameplay was pathetic, you fought the same 4 bosses 4 times each, platforming was done by pressing one button. It was a terrible reboot, and I am not such a fan of reboots because of it.

I have played and enjoyed the DMC series and really couldn't give two figs(pardon my language) about Dante and his precious personality. Also, if you're surprised that Japanese Video Game Characters have emo haircuts you are seriously late to the party.
This game looks amusing. I'm sure I'll buy it.

Eh, like I said, not a great first impression; I'm not entirely against it. If the gameplay is good I don't care if he looks like an ever more effeminate Robert Pattinson. I've been playing Japanese games for a long time now and have become accustomed to their dainty men and childlike women.

I am very much in favor of putting out cigarettes in the eyes of robo-daemons.
Speaking of effeminate video game characters, it doesn't always hurt their popularity.

I thought it was great. The checkpoint system was brilliant, the combat, although way too easy, was fun, and the level design was great. The main problem the game had was those spheres of light.

Yeah. My only complaint against the PoP reboot was the crappy combat system. The acrobatics were still solid though. But the Prince isn't Dante. The Prince's personality and story shifts from one game to another to fit the needs of the story.
Dante's character is an integral part of DMC. I don't think I can enjoy the game if he's going to look like... that... Especially if they keep his old personality, which will just clash with the look. Watching the video makes all his movements feel forced as well, not quite as overthetopfluidbuttkicking as in previous games.
If gameplay is solid I'll live. But this Hat is gonna cry if they kill the character.

I didn't mind the Checkpoint system, I thought it was rather fitting for a platformer of it's type (free roam).
The dialogue ranged from great:
Prince: Stop staring at my butt.
Elika: What makes you think I'm staring at your butt?
Prince: I can feel it when you do. Stop it *Prince walks forward*
*Elika turns her head to the side and looks at his butt*
Prince: STOP IT!
to terrible:
Prince: How long until we get out of here.
Elika: Not long, as soon as we get out of here.
Prince: Well then lets get out of here.
I also wouldn't have minded the Combat if that was the way the bosses were set up but you still had the Prince fighting 5-6 guys at once like he did in the other games. I was really disappointed with that.
I did think the level was designed well, but I thought it was too simplistic in the actual gameplay (Push one button, wait 2 seconds, push another button, wait 2 seconds, push another button, wait 2 seconds, as opposed to actually having to time it in the other games. The Expansion helped, with the exception of one terribly placed camera.)
And I also fully agree with the Sphere of Light "Gotta catch em all" idea was just bad.

They should have just added a new objective to each level if they wanted you to explore them after they were saved.
Anyway, back to the abomination that is this new Dante, it seems that Kamiya himself seems to be pretty dissapointed with this "new direction."

Why would he be happy? He's already seen Dante get hosed once in DMC2
When a developer abandons core elements of a game, bad things often follow. Abandoning Dante's trademark character is not a good sign for the future. Granted, it could still be good. But I think I can find more games that have been 'reinvented' and ruined than reinvented and remained good.

He actually looks just like Nero from Psyclon Nine (with a more modest fashion sense). There's some irony in there somewhere.
The enemy designs are up to snuff, and the action in the trailer is very similar to previous outings in the series. The two locations revealed in the trailer don't do anything to tell you about the level design. If you say that the multiform weapon doesn't look badass or have the potential to add some awesome variety to the series, then you're crazy. Seriously, the only reason people have to be disappointed in this is because they all have a massive man-crush on Dante. And I thought that DMC was given credit first and foremost for it's innovation and gameplay.

Dante was part of the innovation. Losing Dante is like LoZ without Link, or Halo losing the Spartans. Without then, where's the soul that binds the player to the game?
