I am looking for some nomadic players or perhaps even small group of players who would like to meet at a local hobby shop to possibly play some games.
I am currently building a BA army and am starting to get models for my next army; the Eldar
A little background about me: I have been into 40k off and on for about 10 yrs. I have made many armies, and sold them, but I have painted waaaay more than I have ever played. The only gaming experience I have under my belt came back in the 3rd ed rules and I played only a handful of games then. I am passionate about the game and the particularly the hobby aspect of it.
Im looking for some cool people who dont mind a newb (at least as far as the rules go) joining them for some fun, small pt value (at least for now) games. I have roughly 1500 pts of BA painted and many more on the way.
Id like to arrange a game or 2 or 3 for sometime late in October. I am a student so it makes it difficult sometimes, but ultimately, Id like to create a gaming night on a bi-weekly basis about twice a month.....and possibly if we all get along and get to know each other perhaps there is also room for a painting night or two
Post here only if your seriously interested in meeting for a game....with a newb to the rules

Hey cool man. I also go to TCC, the SE campus. As I said been collecting for quite awhile now, but really have no experience in playing. Are you still debating what army to get started with? Do you have any friends who are interested in the game?

Salamanders look awesome. I have about 10 armies in mind that I have plans to build...that is one of them. I primarily like SM armies because they give you a plethora of both building and painting styles....though I have yet to battle test anything . I also have a soft spot for Eldar and Imperial Guard. At the moment though, I only have my Blood Angels army that I started back in april. The army list looks something like this:
HQ
- Commander w/ Honor Guard
ELITE
- 5 man Terminator Assault Sqd
- 5 man Sanguinary Guard Sqd
- Brother corbulo
- Sanguinary Priest
TROOPS
- 20 Tactical Marines
- 5 man Death Co w Jump packs
- Lemartes
FAST ATT
- Landspeeder Tornado
HEAVY
- Dreadnought
- 10 man Devastator Sqd
at the moment everything is painted with the exception of Lemartes. So when do you plan to start collecting? I attend classes in the evening at TCC mon-wed. I work all day in the morning, but with a full time job, a family, and school, I still manage to get in about 12 hrs of painting a wk Any other hobbies I have kinda have been thrown to the wayside to make time for the completion of my army. I was waiting to finish it before I went to Lone Star Comics in arlingotn to play a small game....but I still have to buy a rulebook and read it.....and of course get a few more units for my army.
Automatically Appended Next Post: BTW, if you have any questions about the game or anything relative tot he modeling or painting aspect...let me know. Although dakka as well as other sites have a ton of resources to pull from.
How long have you been interested in Warhammer 40k? Have you played anyother types of games before?

I have been interested for about a month now. I did start to play the LotR table game but that was about 5 years ago. I also go on mon-wed at the TR campus and work a full time job at my old high school. I have a rule book and got it from amazon for about 40 dollars including shipping. might want to look into that. Is that Games Workshop store at Grapevine mall still open or do you know?

Yes it is, I was there about 6 weeks ago. Every employee in there has a nerdgasm when you step into that store too! They are incredibly helpful, and easy to talk with and get advice from. I prefer to go there or buy of ebay for my army supplies. Kinda have a personal vendetta with Lone Star....when I first moved here they didnt carry GW supplies and used to bash the company....now its a prime money maker for them....funny how that works. But i still go there b/c its alot closer for a quick bottle of paint or two....but they mark up their units anywhere from $4-8.
I would recommend if your looking to just get a tactical squad or two....go on ebay and buy them in the form of bits....if you buy all form the same seller, they will combine shipping....usually for free. So you can pick up 10-15 marines for about 20$. Its a good way to get your army rolling!

Cool man! Id like to get out there again soon too. I am taking next week off from work for my birthday. So I am gonna have plenty of time to do some painting. Even though I still have units to finish, I am going to buy a Rhino tank next week. So I might go out there. GW stores are heads and shoulders better than a typical comic book store. They provide inspiration everywhere you look. The store has several glass cases of figures to look at and 3-4 gaming tables with mock/example games of each war game they offer available to try out. If you tell one of the employees your new to the game, they will definately encourage you to play a quick game with them there.
Also, my advice to you would be to buy your paint brushes at a art store as opposed to GW. You will find a better selection of brushes. I dont know how well you know Arlington, but there is a art store called Asel Art (around the UTA campus)....all of their brushes are 50% off right now. You can get 10/0 and 18/0 sizes which are much smaller than anything you will find at GW and cheaper.

Thanks and your welcome. I learned that in the early stages long ago with the GW brushes. I think they are over priced and you can get good professional ones at an art store for cheaper. If you need the location that art store is off of Collins st. on the left side if you are traveling N. Right after you cross Park Row Dr.(behind a drugstore, CVS I Think).
When you get a few squads of tactical marines, or whatever you plan to collect, we should definately try to play some games. I noticed it looks like you might also be interested in a Necron army?

Close, more like a 'nid army though. Using SM to get started and have as a good force.
