Hi All,

So I'm browsing my RT book and I keep seeing references to "retainers" and other hirelings "in the Armory chapter" but I'm unable to find any such thing... so I have the rules for kitting out a platoon of troopers, but rules for hiring the men have thus far eluded me (aside from taking on abstract ship's crew.)

It'd be easy enough to wing it and come up with availability and quality off the top of my head, or create an Endeavor to train up some of the existing ship's crew, or something, but I'm curious if I've overlooked something obvious.

IIRC, it is generally a requisition roll, and I think rules for such are found in that section. I'll get my book from the attic and give it a look-through in the morning.

Well I couldn't find any specifics but here's a quick and dirty rule of thumb that came to me in the shower:

* Assume baseline human has characteristics between 20 and 24, common craftsmanship, and common availability

* using stats for generic NPCs, or GM-generated stats if no suitable NPC matches what the RT wants to hire:
- for every characteristic over 24, increase Quality by one step; for every characteristic below 20, reduce it by one step
- availability based on highest/lowest characteristics - for skilled NPCs (gm's rule - depending on talents/skills NPC has) or any npc with a characteristic over 40, the availability goes up one step for every 5 points over 20 of the NPC's Highest characteristic; for unskilled NPCs (gm's rule) it goes down one step for every characteristic below 20 (doesn't matter by how much.)

* scale rules apply normally

* Mutants, xenos, etc may increase or decrease availability at GM's discretion.

* Assume NPCs are hired unequipped and gear must be Acquired separately.
