I'm a member of a club that plays every Saturday at 3pm till' 9pm, and I'm just letting everyone know we're always open to new players! There are GW tables, tons of GW terrain and a great bunch of guys, some long time players, some new. We mostly play all comers lists, so it's more about having fun and discussing the hobby. I've also become good friends with a bunch of great guys who play whfb as well if ur interested! Thanks!

If it wasnt for my general dislike of Hobby towns, I'd make the trip out. I still might at somepoint if the need to play overtakes me.

I've heard a lot of disdain involving hobbytowns especially reading, but I have to say they treat us very well at the Allentown locale, and the fellow who runs the club is the king. Also have you ever been to showcase comics in Media? That place is amazing! I'd be there every day buying/playing if it wasn't an hour away!

I live around the Water Gap, I tend to go in the opposite direction. I spend most of my time at either Mighty Titans, All in One Collectibles or Time Warp.

Most of the things I've heard about Hobbytown have been extremely negative, to the point I have never been there. But I'm also the same distance to Showcase in Media, so that's no contest. Maybe I'll stop up there one day to see for myself, but its looking bleak unless they offer a good deal on 40k stuff.

Awesome, I am from Phillipsburg NJ and I have been looking for a couple places to play. As soon as I get my Word Bearers painted and the army complete I will have to come out and join you guys for some games.

They offer 10% Off all Gw boxed merch except for blisters, and for every 25 bucks you spend you get a five dollar off coupon. Word Bearers eh? I'd like to go toe to toe with a dark apostle! I'm hoping someone who jumps on the dark eldar train comes by for a game too!

Sounds like fun, give me a couple months to refit and repaint all my troops and I'll be down to battle.

My experience playing at Hobbytown next to the Leigh Valley Mall: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/282264.page

Needless to say, I have not played or purchased anything from them since and do not plan on doing so. I usually buy off ebay or Warstore anyway.

On a more positive note. the 10 or so people I play with have moved our gaming to Dragonhead over on Southside Bethlehem. Its a relatively new store inside of the old VFW.

http://www.dragonheaddistributors.com/

Pros: Lots of gaming space. Alot of scenary to use. Very friendly atmosphere and very friendly owner and staff. Open late on weekends
Cons: Prices are retail, Stock is currently more geared twods FoW players (somewhat limited 40k stock). He is expanding it though. But meh, i go there to chew bubblegum and kill space marines and im fresh out of of bubblegum.

I don't have any problems with any hobbytown I've been to but I don't go to them for GW stuff, I go to them for other hobby supplies. Usually a great place to get different kinds of plasticard and rods and stuff, plus woodland scenics, balsa wood and other stuff. Not to mention a good selection of military models and other stuff like that.

Hobbytown is a franchise just like McDonalds and they have to carry what the franchise tells them to but the owners I think can support what they like best. Like, the Hobbytown in Springfield is pretty much dedicated to RC cars and phased out all their GW stuff a while back. But the Hobbytown in West Chester has a nice selection of GW stuff and I think they run games and stuff there too. Not all hobbytowns are bad, they just vary depending on what they support the most.

Why would anyone in that area of PA/NJ go anywhere but Trains and Lanes for their modeling supplies?

Me and a few friends in the area are looking in to the hobby and a few will only play if we find a club to play at, so I was wundering if anyone still plays at the store.

There is a store in Hatboro PA called Stomping Grounds, there are a couple of people from that area who come down for games. A very good 40k and wm crowd, lots of casual and competitive players as well.

we have a very regular group over at the Portal in Bethlehem, we meet at least once a month on Sundays fro 11-6. Good group of players ranging from new to experienced. We typically play 1k-1500 pts.

Our next meetup is actually this sunday 4/13. Come on out and get a game in!

Wish I'd known about this before I moved because until about 3 months ago I lived in Brodheadsville, PA. I'd heard of the hobby when I played MTG at Bushkill cards and games if anybody knows that place. I guess if I ever go back to PA to visit my friends I'll try to play a game. I've actually been in that hobbytown before but didn't see any 40k stuff.

Lol that might explain why I didn't see them last time I was there. Probably should've checked the post dates.

That's not entirely true, but we don't play at HobbyTown anymore. Some of us game regularly at Stomping Geounds now and make the occasional trip down to Showcase Comics in Media, PA.

I know the players are still around, but the meetups at hobby town no longer happen.
