Hey folks.
So I stated a while back that I'd be collecting BFG models at some point, and after nearly frying my printer here at the office by printing out the entire BFG rulebook and the specific fleet books for Imperial, Tau, Necron, and Tyranid fleets, and doing some research, I've decided my first fleet will be Imperial - which leads me to my question.
Ad Mech ships - are they metal or plastic kits?
I prefer the look of the Ad Mech ships, and the Ad Mech "book" (all four pages of it) state you can use them just fine as Imperial ships, but I know most of the Imperial ships are plastic models, which I think I would prefer. GW's website is delightfully ambiguous regarding whether the Ad Mech ships are metal or plastic.
Anyone know?

4 pages, take this, fanwork:

The link provided by Brother Argos down the thread. Same rules but funky BFG layout with ships and all.
AdMech is full metal minus the weapon parts (launch bays, batteries, lances).

One thing to be wary about with the AdMech is that I had a piece missing from one of the cruisers I bought...I've also heard of the battleship having a missing piece too (the bridge IIRC). Not that this should be a deterrent from buying these otherwise awesome models, as in every case I've heard of GW has been forthcoming with the replacement parts. Just be aware that you need to check your models carefully when you get them to make sure you have all the bits.
On the plus side, I wound up with several extra AdMech sigils that can be used in a lot of different things thanks to their size (about 1/4" in diameter).

I've decided on Imperial ships for my first few, but at some point I definitely want to work in an Ad Mech cruiser or three, when I start expanding my fleet.
For now I've just ordered 1 Retribution class Battleship, 1 Vengeance class Grand Cruiser, 2 Dauntless class Light Cruisers, and six (two blisters) Cobra class destroyers (of which I'll actually paint 5), for 1000 points.
So now I've gotta find some people in Louisville who play BFG.
And if I'm successful there, then I'll start expanding the fleet.

Your list is illegal I'm afraid...
Grand Cruisers do not count towards cruiser numbers for allowing a battleship.
You have to field 3 cruisers to field the battleship and the Vengeance is out.
Perhaps get a sprue of 2 plastic ships? I recently bought a fair few of these and magnetised them for various payloads.

That's a good point, Stompa. I would also go for the plastic cruisers, you could make one a Dictator and swap it for the Vengeance, which would add some nice support to this fleet. Or, you could make it a battle cruiser (a Mars would work well), but that would require cutting at least one of your Cobras to make it work.

And the magnetising is really easy once you actually sit down and do it. If you got 2 packs (ie 4 cruisers) and made 1 a battlecruiser and the rest just cruisers, you can magnetise them out for an amazing range of options. Automatically Appended Next Post: Here's Foxphoenix's guide to magnetising, I used the same process and mine came together like a dream.

Oh, damn, didn't realize that.
I'll just have to proxy it as something different until I can order some more Cruisers.

I thought most BFG ships were metal.

Most are, but the cruisers/battlecruisers for Imperials and Chaos are plastic and the forgeworld tau is resin.

You can even do it with metal ships. Like I did it with several Imperial Battleships, "A Battle Barge" and even one Chaos Battleship. But the last was hard work and I wont (and actualy will not) do that again. Ill try with light Dauntless soon, but I think it will do...
