Before anyone thinks I'm jumping on the stronger Marine codex bandwagon let me tell you a bit of jackanory

When I started 40k many moons ago my first Marine army was Blood Angels; this was down to the missus actually as she had hijacked some of my models and started painting them red, so I just ran with that. I used the Angel codex from W.D but then got onto Ultramarines thanks to the U.M trilogy, so I switched to the Marine 4th edition codex.

When the 5th edition Marine codex came out I started doing a Angel army along side my then current Ultramarine army. In time the Ultras changed to Imperial Fists and I started playing a Angels player (Justicar Alaric).

I was playing against one of my 40k buddies with my Fists and realised Marines actually aren't that good as they once were, still a decent codex but not as powerful as the Angels codex. So I thought I'd go back to my roots and return to Blood Angels!

Here's what I've got to paint:

That;s a 2,000 point army there which I've started to hack through. Luckily I had all the infantry models already (though I had some donated and accquired through swaps) I had three Rhinos already which I'll convert to Razorbacks, managed to get another two Razorbacks thanks to Dakka user Wakinglimb. I just need to purchase the Baal Predators after two successful trials using the flamestorm cannons and failing with the assault cannons.

Here's some progress:

I painted the above with two coats of foundation mechrite red, picked out the details and then washed using baal red. I wanted black shoulder trim to give some contrast and a grey aquila to give another colour which really seperates it.

I had some donation Angel spares, so I used the fancy backpacks and Sanguinary Guard heads for sgt's , Priests and Librarians where possible. The Librarians btw I've done all red except for the shoulder guards because I can't stand full blue Librarians and the shoulder trim I did black as the red (used for sgt's) didn't look too good.

The models in the background painted red are a squad of Honour Guard. I gave them a coat of mechrite last night, will touch them up tonight and paint them - hopefully I can wash them too.
