My google search-fu is weak on this one.  I want to know how to put an LED into a dread, for lighting effects.  Anyone know of any tutorials, etc.? what do I buy, how do I do it...blah blah blah.

any help is appreciated.

Nononooooo

I know the battery you're using ....it's small but the same style as a AAA. way too big to fit inside a dreadnought!! :S Unless you facny on running wiring down into the base, which would not be fun with dreadnought legs the way they are....

get yourself a smaller battery!

The beenefit of having such a big battery and a resistor is that it last longer, I primarily use 3v coin cells for all my work... I just magnetize a panel and rig the battery in such a way that is accessible and removeable, usually use a battery clip (BTW Foda- I gety my battery clips out of a catalog from a company called Mouser) look them up www.mouser.com, and ask for a catalog, they come every couple months and they're as thick as phone books, stocked with all sorts of electronic wizardry!!!

Let me go and dig up some PICS and I'll be right back...

come back!

yeah, so i read more and learned that usually, 2.1v LEDs are capable of accepting 3 volt batteries without a resistor, and my father is has a degree in engineering (though not electrical), mentioned that the wiring should bleed off some of the energy on its own, anyway, and a resistor would be doubly unnecessary.

so what i'm going to do is return that 9v battery and get 2 small 1.5v batteries, and somehow rig up wiring/LED/switch so that i can turn the light on/off. now i just need to figure out how to make it all work. i may not need wiring, just the batteries, if i put them in the chest area.

Yep, now you're thinking, and for triggering the switch, I use a magnetic switch cause it gives a nice clean appearance!

there's one of my dreads, i did a long time back with a light in the barrell and a spinning assault cannon

and heres a Terminator with roughly the same thing!!

Some Specs on the Dread, I usually use Sprue to span the dreads torso for support and rig everything up to that, since you're making a guy and he's gonna be veiwable through the plastic screen, you should probably make the back engines removeable for batteries and rig the guy and the lights to the front plate and then stick it in there, and wire up the rest from the back!
