I've just read the interview with Rick Priestley in Miniature Wargames and the interviewer didn't really push very hard to tell his side. What he does say suggests that he was sidelined from GW's ruling body, my interpretation is that he felt GW were trying to get him to quit. I'd back that up (unless it appears in the next WD) by saying that if it was amicable why did WD not have a big feature thanking him for his service seeing as how important he has been to their whole business?

It's how the big companies get rid of people who've been there a while but aren't part of their 'bigger picture'.

- MAKE THEM QUIT. Severance package is cheaper.

Give them crappy nowhere jobs and a sideways 'promotion' and hope they get jack of it and leave.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.

In the adult world you or your employer do not discuss reasons for leaving/termination of contract etc, with the general populace.

Ditto as to why there was no 'thanks a million Rick' in WD.

Unless GW or Mr. Priestly discuss the reasons for departure we can only make up diabolical rumours about the evil empire.

He left to write a rulebook for another company. Even Jervis couldn't put enough spin on that one.

Who is left now at the so-called Design Studio?

Who is going to write the next edition of 40K (we all know there will be one) and the ensuing codexes?

And ditto for WHFB.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

Chances are he was pushed out the same way they pushed out Alessio. Changed his contract, kicked him down a salary scale or two, made him sweep behind the shed instead of writing rules, that sort of stuff.

Who is left? Robin Cruddy? Mat Ward? Phil Kelly? Oh boy..

As for writing rules for other companies: he did that with Jervis, producing the excellent Black Powder rules.

If you read his interview you wouldn't need to think up any diabolical rumors as to why he left. Additionaly, I've seen plenty of companies give send off's to employees who have made important contrubitions to their buisness. In GW land Rick can count himself lucky if his name isn't stricken from the records.

Maybe a side bar would suffice.

Anything larger would reflect even more badly on GW. 'Gosh Rick, you made us, without you we are nothing'.

They didn't do it for Andy or Alessio either, sorry Rick.

Thing is Andy & Alessio were comparative late-comers. Rick was there from the beginning and responsible for much of the framework other workers built off of.

I still think Tuomas (sp?) was their best overall rules guys. WFB6 was a very solid project at launch.

That and White Dwarf is ready to print 3 months in advance, so short of a stop press, you aren't going to see it bang up to date.
