I am trying to build adaptus mechanicus army using the space wolves codex as a basics.
I only have sculpted one guy, but I already have a lot of ideas. Now the problem is: I am not a realy experienced painter but I still want to paint this mini NMM.
So I ask you talented painters of dakka, would you please help me increase my skills so I can make a nice looking army.

Training sheep, Stocking Urchins.

Id go for less blue and more ochre and reds. Also, why use the SW codex?

Not to be rude, but nmm is an advanced technique, you need to get the basics down first.

Just go through the painting articles, learn to prime, thin your paints, basecoat and drybrush first. Then washes. Then highlighting. Then wet blending. Then nmm.

You have a long way to go my friend, but don't be discouraged, everything you need lesson wise is easily available, and if you study a bit you will do great!

Good luck!

I concur, you need to get down more of the basics before you jump ahead to nmm, I've only just started learning nmm that doesn't ache the eyes, and I've been in the hobby for almost 3 years, looks to off to a decent start though

Makes me think of my early years in the hobby...

No offence, but jusy as everybody above i think its best starting with the basics, before starting with NMM and other advanced ..things
I am in no way a "good" painter, but even the best had to start at the bottom.
One word: practice.
practice,practice,practice
only way to get there.

Try working on these basic steps:

(1) Prime

(2) Basecoat

(3) Undercoat

(4) Wash

(5) Highlight

For example, on an Ultramarine you could:

(1) prime in chaos black (use the spray and then touch up with a brush)

(2) basecoat with mordian blue

(3) undercoat with ultramarines blue

(4) wash with asurmen blue

(5) drybrush highlights in enchanted blue

***Make sure to thin you paints with water to avoid them coming out gloopy on your models!***

Just try this and I think you will be surprised and pleased with the results. I know it may not be exciting but this is really the first thing you should try to master. If you can't get through this part of the process, you will likely never get to NMM techniques.

Big thing is right now, you need to thin your paint down a fair bit.

What kind of brushes are you using?

White especially benifits from several very thin coats of paint. TBH, I still have trouble with white.

You can get some awsome results with the GW washes.

I always use water when I paint to thin it up a bit, I mostly have trouble finding realistic light points.

Did you sculpt the robe on that guy yourself?

Some of the issue might be the underlying texture of the robe then. What the majority of people are commentin on is that the paint looks like there is too much on the mini. I'm thinking that it might be a bit of the texture of the GS underneath showing through.

Another pic or 2 with some better lighting might help tell a bit more, and to be able to offer more constructive advice.
