So, here's some WIPs of my fledgling army, my DIY Blood Angels successor chapter.

First up is how I get to the 'black' I will be using for the standard 'troops,' like tactical squads, assault, etc. I'll eventually get to the red for my Death Company, and the silver for my Sanguinary Guard. I'm still unsure how I'll paint my unique models (Dante, Lemartes, etc.).

Steps 1 & 2:

Steps 3 & 4:

Step 5:

Step 6:

Step 7 & 8:

Step 9:

Next up is the first of my honor guard.

Ok, so I got some work done on the PF, as well as this guy's shoulder pads and tabard that I'll be adding.

Well, the fluff for my successor chapter is coming along nicely. Check it out here if you'd like. I've also gotten quite a bit of work done on my unit of DC, and I'll have photos up as soon as I can manage to actually take them, lol.

Ok, so I got some photos of both my Death Company and my Assault Squad, so here they are. I apologize in advance for any fuzziness/blurriness, or if the images are washed out. I was in a bit of a hurry to take the shots while I had 1) the models, 2) the camera and 3) the connecting cord all in one room (aka I knew where it all was XD).

Death Company 5 (This is my first bare head, and first attempt at painting skin. You can't see it very well, but it came out pretty well. I think I just need to add another layer of wash or two to really give it some contrast

None of the painting is 100% finished on any of these models, though the DC are very close to having what you see finished..then just gotta do arms/weapons and backpacks. And I promise, when I get more DC, I'll post up a tutorial on how to get those colors...Or maybe when I paint my DC Dread I'll do that.

Ok, so I have a progress update and a few pictures this time around. While I haven't finished my Death Company yet, I have mostly assembled my 5man Assault Squad (minus the JP), and they are awaiting their time under my brush. In other news, I have begun working on a side project for a little community project over on the B&C called the Legio Bolter and Chainsword mini-persona. Essentially, you paint up a Space Marine like you would a Deathwatch Marine, but instead of all black/silver left arm, you use the B&C's chapter colors (red, black and white). I actually have two of these planned. One is the metal Assault Chaplain, the other is this guy:

I apologize for the blurriness, I'm still stuck with a crappy camera. Anyways, the legs, torso and head are from the old Command Squad box. Now, this is what I'm looking at for the rest of his gear:

From the top left we have: a bolter sling and a combat knife (to convert and use as a bayonet), of which I'm still trying to decide what to use on the bolter; next is a litany/prayer cloth, a bolt pistol to possibly be attached (via a 'di-pole mag-lock' to his left leg), an extra little bit from the GK Terminators sprue, the little devotional chests/relics/etc., and finally some extra purity seals. Lastly, in the center is his backpack, with the GK Termies' servo-skull and the top from the Nemesis Warding Stave as an 'iron halo.'

Ok, now a couple opinion questions; First, should I use the sling or make the bayonet for the rifle? Or maybe just leave it plain? Its already the 'plated' Sergeant's bolter. Next, should I try to find a way to attach the bolt pistol to the model, or maybe just put it on the base as though it ran out of ammo and he switched to his bolter? And lastly, if I add the purity seals and/or relic box, do you think the model might look a little too busy? I think it might, but then I also think it would look cool as a stand-alone piece if I did. C&C are always appreciated.

Ok, so I have a question regarding a model I'm doing for my Blood Angels army. Its the Finecast Emperor's Champion. The model is exquisite, and there was nothing wrong with the mold. However, because of the clamshell, his sword has become slightly curved. Is there any way to fix this?

Automatically Appended Next Post:
The picture doesn't do a very good job of showing the curvature of the sword. Not only is it starting to curve like a scimitar, but its also curving like its going to bend over the hilt, like its going limp.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Alright, two things. Firstly, I fixed my Emperor's Champion by running the sword under -very- hot water, bending it back into place, and then running some cold water or an ice cube over the sword to re-set it. It looks much better now, and I am only waiting for it to dry before priming it. And as for priming, I have gotten my Bolter and Chainsword Marine's body primed. I will probably begin painting him tonight.

Ok, first is the Emperor's Champion:

And here's my Legio Marine:

Ok, so I'm taking a slight break from my army to bring you this update. I have started painting a submission for the Pre-Heresy Conclave charity event. I have chosen to do the Emperor's Champion for my entry in my version of the Death Guard's chapter colors (hey, this gives me some practice for my DG army! ). So here's where I'm at now. Its only basecoats and an initial wash so far.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Alrighty, here's some pictures after getting about 90% complete (again, just the backpack, basing and sealing left to do).

The flash did slightly wash out some of the vibrancy of the green. The actual color doesn't look so yellowish. Also, IIRC, the Death Guard were known for not wearing many honors or embellishments on their armor or gear, so I opted to leave the various gemstones as just stones or clasps. The only embellishments are the gold 'leaf' on the sword and the Rosarius.

As always, questions, comments and criticism are always appreciated.

Never been a huge fan of the Death Guard but I really like the the look of the armor. I can't put my finger on it but I really like it. Its got the feel of the Chaos Death Guard but its a lot cleaner.

Heh, thanks Schank! Almost every time I see someone painting Pre-Heresy DG, it always seems they paint them white. Now, its not my place to say what color 'unpainted' ceramite is or isn't, but this is my take on it. I also washed it with Devlan Mud (or Devlan Magic, as we call it at my FLGS ), which is where the dingy look comes from. That's also another thing I've always had in my mind. The Death Guard kept up their gear, yes, but it was never pristine, IIRC. Anyways, thanks for the kind words. I'm really stoked this came out as well as it did. I will definitely be using it on my DG army in the (far-off) future.

Ok, so now that I've mostly finished my Conclave entry, I've begun working on my Legio Marine for the Bolter and Chainsword. So far I've only done a bit of Mechrite Red and some roughly 1:2 Adeptus Battlegray and Fortress Gray. The helmet is definitely going to be red, and I'm liking the red chest detailing, but I'm not hot about the red on the backpack.

So I've decided I'm going to leave the backpack black, and just have the helm and aquila red. And I have a cool idea in my head for the aquila, but I'm not going to say it.
