7 Khorne Berzerkers, Champion, Power fist, Rhino

Defiler, Reaper Auto Cannon, Close Combat

Round 3 my opponent was Tyler, with his Tyranids. His list was something like:

Hive Tyrant, dual scything talons, Hive commander, 2 tyrant guard
Tervigon
Tervigon
10 termagaunts
10 termagaunts
10 hormagaunts, toxin sacs, adernal glands
3 tyranid warriors, dual bone swords
3 tyranid warriors, dual bone swords
3 raveners
Tyranofex
Trygon
Doom of malantai, in spore pod
10 harpies

Mission was as follows:
Primary was to have more than 1500 victory points than you opponent. This would get you 15 points
more than 750 would get you 10.
there was one objective in the center, hold it at the edn of the game, and get 10 points.
If you had an Hq alive at the end of the game and your opponent did not, you got 5 points.
Deployment was Dawn of war.

Pre game analysis: Bugs don't scare me. Especially not with this list. My plan, just like the last game was to bunch up, and march forward. His list in my opionion would not have the anti tank to handle the 6 walkers. Most bug lists dont.

I win the roll and choose to go second.

Tyler Deploys the hive tyrant, a squad of warriors, and a tervigon on the center line. He holds a the raveners, trygon, doom of malantai, and another tervigon in reserve.

I deploy nothing and declare walk on turn 1.

Tyler's turn 1. He walks on from the tavle edge, and advanves with his tervigon and hive tyrant and warriors. For whatever reason, he opts NOT to spawn any termagaunts. Pherhaps because it was a VP mission.

My turn 1.
I roll on with my dreads in front of my defilers right infront of his advancing hive tyrant. a rhino with berzerkers and a rhino with plague marines to the left of the walkers, along with both Dps, and one berzerker rhino the to the right.

I use the spotligt in a rhino to spot the hive tyrant and I see it! This was huge. Now, all of my walkers open up and kill the hive tyrant and guard in one turn. Tyler was not the happiest camper. ANother battle cannon also kills 2 tyranid warriors.

Tyler turn 2
All reserves arrive except trygon. Tervigon outflanks on my far left side. He deept strikes the ravengers right next to me, and the doom of malantai lands on the right side, but scatters back a bit. He moves and runs toward me with all os his troops and harpies. Tervigon moves up. Tyranofex blows up the berzerker rhino on the right side, explosion kills two. Terigon uses stinger salvo and I make my saves. Doom of malantai's blast is centered on the berzerkers, and scatters. Again, no making gaunts.

My Turn 2
My dreadnoughts behave. My plague marines and berzerkers on the left side get into positin around cover, and my DPs fly to the middle of my ranks to be ready to react to a trygon deepstrike. I move the 5 slogging berzerkers toward the nearby tervigon. I shoot at the ravengers with a dreadnought, killing 1(mistake) they fail their LD check, falling back out of assault range. Other shooting nets one wound on the tyranofex in the back feild. In Assault, I charge the tervigon with 5 berzerkers, and manage to kill it! I consolidate back toward my board edge.

Tyler turn 3
Still no Trygon. Ravengers fall back again, but stop when they hit warrior synapse range. He advanges with his troops, straight up the right side. Harpies fly right up next to the 5 berzerkers on foot. In shooting, the doom of malantai kills 2 berzerkers, and the tyranofex blows the battle cannon off of the far right defier. He assaults the berzerkers, reducing them to one model. I kill a few in return. Tervigon keeps marching up my flank. No gaunts.

My turn 3.
Dreadnought RAGE! must move toward the harpies. I move the battle cannon-less defiler toward the harpies, and fly a Khorne prince over the harpes combat to try and assault a tyranid warrior. Plague marines and far left berzerkers in rhinos move onto center objetive, behind over from tyranofex. Plagure marines fire from top hatch with melta guns against raveners, killing 1. rhino bolters put one more wound on last model. Defiler shooting tries to kill doom of malantai, but fails.
I assault the haries with the RAGE dread and a defier. I wipe the unit, and my lone berzerker makes it out alive. My khorne prince assaults and kills a tyranid warrior(Huge mistake) I consolidate ahead with my walkers.

Tyler turn 4.
Trygon comes in and deep strikes on my left side bedhing berzerker and plague marines rhinos. He moves the Tervigon up on the flank, and moves the doom of malantai backwards. he moves and fleets the hormagaunts toward the Khorne Daemon prince. Termagaunts move up and shoo the DP, causing 1 wound. he moves the ravenrers toward the plague marines rhino. Tyranofex shooting blows up the center defiler. Tyrgon shooting immobilizes berzerker rhino. Hormagaunts assault the Khorne DP and cause 1 wound. I inflict 3 back. He loses one more in combat res.

My turn 4. I hop out of my rhinos on the left side with the berzerkers and plague marines in front of the trygon. I move my Tzeench DP into assault range of the Trygon. I advance my Dreadnoughts toward his troop line. In shooting I manage to kill the last ravenger. I fleet the far right defiler 5 inches toward the doom of malantai. On the left, I cause one wound in shooting to the Trygon. In assault, I assault the Doom of malanti and kill it. I assault the tyranid warriors with a dreadnought and kill them. I assault the trygon and kill it, but it kills 3 berzerkers in return. I consolidate toward the tervigon. My walkers consolidate ahead. There are now 3 dreads and a defiler siwftly stomping their way into his half of the board.

Turn 5.
'He moves up his tervigon, but is out of assault range. His lurking gaunts lurk. Tyranofex immoblizes the far left defiler.

My turn 5.
I advance toward his tyranofex and shoot his gaunts. They fall back 4 inches. I assalut them and kill both units. My defiler assaults his mysetic spore and fails to do anything. I assault the tervigon with a Dp and berzerkers and kill it.

We roll for turn 6, and we get it.

Tyler turn 6.
Tyranofex moves backwards, it shoots and blows the missile launcher off of a dreadnought.

My turn 6.
One dreadnought goes crazy and gets fire frenzy. I advance and shoot at the tyranofex. Lucky rolling lets me put another wound on it. I choose to fire the frag round with the crazy dread and it fails to hurt the other dreads. Berzerkers move back onto the objective. Defiler kills the mysetic spore, but gets immobilized in the process.

We roll for turn 7, and we get it.

Tyler turn 7.

He shoots me with the tyranofex, and only gets a shaken on a dread.

My turn 7
I move up with a dread and get into assault range. Shooting does no wounds to the tyranofex. i just make it into assault with one dreadnought, 4 attacks, 4 misses. Tyrnofex wiffs

Thats the game.

I win by 750 victory points, I missed the 1500 Vp victory by a couple hundred. This gets me 10 points
I control the center objective, so I get 10 points.
I have an Hq still alive and Tyler has none, so I get five points.

Finally tally:
Me: 25
Tyler: 0

Thoughts: I made some mistakes, but this game went how I hoped. I just wish I had been able to get the table. But I can;t complain.

MVP: The dreadnoughts. They destroyed everything.

Tournament conclusion:
At the end of the day, I got 98 points, earning me 2nd place. 1st place a mech IG player wo finished with 115 points. After comparing scores, I knew the only way I could win the tournament was to play and beat him, which would not have been easy, but we did not get chance to play. Still, I was fine with second, and I had a good day of gaming. Thanks for reading!

You killed a 6-wound, toughness 6 MC with 5 berzerkers? You must have had some insane rolling.

4 berzerkers rolled well and put 2 wounds on it, and the PF champ put 4 wounds on it. It was very nice.

i don't think of myself as "God's Gift to Tyranid Players" but this list is pretty terrible.

Hive Tyrant, dual scything talons, Hive commander, 2 tyrant guard
1) why a walking CC tyrant w/out any ranged attacks
2) tyrant guard are good at x2 apiece but lash whips or boneswords help them alot
3) i have a hard time imagioning this unit being wiped off the board, turn 1, under dawn of war effects, if it was screened by gants to get a 4+ cover save.

Tervigon
Tervigon
1) tell me these had at least toxin sacs and catalyst?

10 termagaunts
10 termagaunts
10 hormagaunts, toxin sacs, adernal glands
1) 10 hormagants outflanking by way of hive commander seems the only way to effectively use a squad this small and upgraded
2) i don't think he outflanked with them. did he even screen them?

3 tyranid warriors, dual bone swords
3 tyranid warriors, dual bone swords
1) there is a reason that sooooo many tyranid players think these guys blow in 5th edition, this report didn't disappoint that arguement.

3 raveners
1) gaining popularity when taken in greater numbers but again, a squad this size seems greatly ineffective.

Tyranofex
Trygon
1) best weopon vs. those walkers and it was never going to make it into BtB with them.

Doom of malantai, in spore pod
10 harpies
1) gonna assume these are gargoyles from the picks and if so i'm having a hard time understanding what funtion this unit has to the army.
2) toxin sacs and adrenal glands are a steal for these guys but yet i'd assume they are wasted points since the whole army seems to be lacking any significant upgrades.

i don't understand not spawning gants here. sure, they are extra points tagged onto your total team but they might be avg.55pts worth of individual squads! cover saves galore and bodies to counter assault those berzerkers once they engage. as for the walking tyrant, that model was boned from the start. DoW means he doesn't get his guard with him to start the game and that pretty much sucks major ass for tyranid players relying on that delivery system.

hard match to read from a tyranid player's perspective. the trygon and hive tyrant being so important put major strains on this army. anti-tank deficient for sure. no zoans or hive guard?

There is a reason my list crushed his. As you said, his list was not that good and just could not stand up to what I was running.

@ Crazy Beanz: It was a good tournament. I will encourage more players from greenville to drive down. See you in February. If not at the Crazy beanz tournament, then in Raleigh on the 26th for sure.
