Deployment

I lost the roll off and Kris went first deploying his units on the top left flank. He put his jump pack squads behind ruins which held Devs inside on the top floors. He left two squads out ready to move into action.

I deployed using the centre shrine ruin to give cover to most my tanks, on the right side of the shrine I had two Leman Russes with two Chimeras behind. On the left side was the Hound and both CCS, just behind the Vendettas and then the remaining Chimeras. The Manticore held way back in a ruin.

* Tactical Notes

I'm going to attempt to seize the initiative and target those Devs with Vendettas, multi lasers, Leman Russes and the Manticore and hopefully I'll score enough damage. Then I'll wait for Kris to come to me with whatever he has and unleash the Hellhound, mass plasma and anything else. I'll kept on the Devs until gone and bomb the Honour Guard with the Manticore.

Turn 1

Kris moves the 5 man plasma unit which has a Librarian and Priest attached to get cover from a ruin flanking across the board to me. He brings another two melta units across the board straight at me.

Shooting his Devs fire at both Vendettas and destroy them both earning him two kill points.

My turn movement, I move the Hound up 6" in order to fire all weapons and shuffle Chimeras and Leman Russes about - out of range of plasma this turn with rapid fire.

Shooting I use the Hound on a Assault Squad along with Manticore support leavnig about half the squad left; they fail morale and fall back 3D6". I blast another squad with both Leman Russes, the Librarian is attached and casts shield power saving a few Marines, they pass morale.

Kill points are Imperial Guard 0: Blood Angels 2

* Tactical Notes

Ok, bummer, I lost the two Vendettas which would have been nice to have and cost me two kill points. Luckily other damage has been minimal and I've chased off one Assault Squad, but it will regroup and come back.

Turn 2

Kris moves the falling back unit along with Honour Guard support towards my Russes while the Librarians squad moves towards the Hellhound as the 5 man plasma unit hold position along with everything else.

Shooting Kris' Devs cause more carnage wrecking a Chimera and forcing a morale test on the squad inside as they have lost 25% - they pass morale, luckily. One CCS Chimera gets opened up as well and the Hound gets wrecked. Thankfull both the melta unit and supporting Honour Guard are out of melta range and do nothing.

My movement turn, I move the last CCS Chimera over the wreck of the Hound ok and move both the CCS and plasma unit through terrain left by exploding Chimeras as another plasma Chimera moves through the shrine pass without any problems; the squad inside bails out and aims at the melta A.S squad through the door way. Leman Russes move to point blank fire at the Honour Guard and Assault Squad.

I issue orders from the CCS inside the Chimera, fire on my target to the CCS on foot and the plasma unit on foot - the other CCS issues the same order to the plasma unit which just got out the Chimera.

Shooting I blast the Librarians melta squad with multi plasma units and kill the squad and the Librarian gaining two kill points. I blast the melta unit which attempted to destroy my Russes, the re-roll cover saves order comes in useful leaving the Sgt standing, one Leman Russ fires at the Sgt and kills him getting me another kill point. The other Russ fires the battle cannon and heavy flamer at the Honour Guard but the shot scatters and only kills one, the Manticore fires at them and misses mostly. Lastly two Chimeras fire at a Dev unit forcing a morale test; which they fail and run off.

Kill points are Imperial Guard 3: Blood Angels 5

* Tactical Notes

I've managed to claw back three kill points and tackle most stuff on my door step though I'm gutted I didn't hit those Honour Guard which means at least one of those Leman Russes is probably gonna be slag next turn. Once again Kris' Devastators cause damage taking out two Chimeras - and some brainiacs said they're gak! lol.

Plan is to deal with the Honour Guard and Devs still.

Turn 3

Kris moves his Honour Guard closer to my Leman Russ; that's about it.

Shooting his H.G slag my Russ getting him a kill point. Devs blast the CCS Chimera scoring crew shaken, weapon destroyed and immobilised results. Another Chimera is wrecked by another squad of Devs :(

My movement I move the single Russ over so the two Chimeras holding melta Veterans can move up and take shots on the H.G; one goes over the wreck of the Leman Russ without any problems. I also move up a plasma squad through the shrine ruin but I need to run them to get them up to the first level after poor terrain rolls. The CCS on foot I move and run through terrain to get cover and a better shot at that 5 man plasma squad Kris is hanging back.

Shooting I blast the Honour Guard with melta but thanks to passing cover saves and my poor shooting rolls only one is dead. I blast the Manticore at the H.G too but it does nothing; pants.

Kill points are Imperial Guard 3: Blood Angels 6

* Tactical Notes

Damn those Devs are at it gain wrecking tanks! Also lost a Russ too. I've now got double points to catch up and it appears this turn I'm not going to do a lot.

Turn 4

I don't think Kris has any movement this turn.

Shooting he stuns a Chimera my side of the shrine ruin while he wrecks on by the single Russ.

My turn I move the last Russ partly towards the Devs on the ground floor (which regrouped earlier) in order to block LOS, hopefully meltas won't be in range. I move the melta unit now out the Chimera through terrain.

Shooting I blast the H.G with melta and finally kill them - yay! Manticore gets a single shot and fires at the 5 man plasma squad, hits nothing, while the CCS in terrain fires a long shot plasma and kills one.

Kill points Imperial Guard 4: Blood Angels 7

* Tactical Notes

Well I think this game might be Kris' unless we go on until turn 7. He's got nothing in range and I've lost my most potent long range weaponry. Best I can do is hide the weak Guardsmen and blast that 5 man Assault Squad with plasma long shots and the Devs with multi laser - what I have left!

Turn 5

Kris moves a melta Assault Squad out from behind the ruins on his table edge and it appears my distance from melta range to my Leman Russ might be off....

Shooting Kris pops the Russ with melta. Devs unleash frags onto my Guard in the shrine killing 50%, they fail a morale test and run away.

My turn I fire some long shot plasmas at the 5 man Assault Squad but I don't think I do anything. I think that's about it.

Kill points Imperial Guard 4: Blood Angels 9

We roll for turn 6 but it doesn't happen giving Kris the win!

Summary

That was a short and brutal game, mostly due to the Devastators. They wrecked two Vendettas fire turn, two Chimeras second turn, done damage to two the third turn to stop them shooting and popped another and blasted a squad of Guardsmen with frags making them fall back - the Devs, between them, scored 6 kill points, not bad for gak units hey

Not sure if I did anything wrong this game. Just my tanks were going boom like a boomstick and the Manticore didn't do a fat lot along with my inability to actuall kill units, instead I just mauled them.

Ah well, can't win them all. Well done Kris

Great report and it seems like Kris has really improved using his JP angels from the first game you posted many months ago.

What do you think you would have done differently? Outflanked, played more aggressively?

Yeah Kris did well and played very defensively. Instead of sending forward mass Angels and getting into range of my guns he sent forward four units (mostly) which did some damage but ultimately died. With his Devs kicking so much ass he didn't even have to (or did) move other units thanks to leading with kill points.

Don't think there was a fat lot else I could done. Perhaps hidden all Chimeras and the Vendettas more to get cover saves. Other than that it was just good luck with Kris' Devs wrecking the place and my poor luck to actually finish units off.

I must say mercer, I would love to see some Blood Angel on Blood Angel action! Oooo Kinky!

Anyway, great report. I feel for mech IG it always comes down to first turn. Generally if I get first turn with my JP BA, it will be quite a different fight if the IG went first. I am happy to see an Mech IG list though that usees Russes instead of Hydra, too many Hydra out there now-a-days.

If you look back mate in the bat rep forum there's some Angel vs Angel reps up from when I was testing my Angel list Haven't had a Angel vs Angel game with them since tuning my list.

Yeah IG could do with first turn to get that long range shooting in. If they lost the long range shooting (like I did) then they will have issues.

Never been keen on Hydras TBH. Standard Russes are pretty cool good all rounders.

Just curious as to why you didn't start with your Vendettas in reserve. Hoping to steal the initiative seemed like really slim odds.

Why would I want to start the Vendettas in reserve for? I want there fire power a.s.a.p, not on turn 4. Stealing the initiative is slim odds but if I want to fire first that's the only way to go first after losing the roll off, right?

If it were me I'd find the points to take an astropath and outflank the vendettas when you have to go second. Staring down those rockets for a turn is always a risk.

Is indeed a risk though missiles got lucky taking out two in a single turn. Outflanking them isn't something I would do.

Didn't think of that one TBH, could have turbo boosted them across the board giving 4+ cover and staying on my side at the same time. I'll remember that for next turn

you really should of known that one mercer i use it every time i field my guard#

great game by the looks of things nice to see kris has improved so much

but its not only that , he has stuck to his list and learnt how to use it rather then constantly pissing and moaning and blaming lists . kris knew he was going to have to learn how to get the most out of his units and he did it. I think this is a lesson to all the people that used to slate kris' list . it proves that not only is it a competative list but also that there is more to this game then building an awesome list.

any way great geam guys and i can't wait to play kris again as it looks like he may give me more ten a run for my money now

I know Craig mate, never mind hey :(

Kris is coming along well and isn't no longer firing at the wrong stuff i.e krak missiles at Leman Russes at falling back instead of assaulting . Indeed he's stuck to his list and got used to it and doing very well, at least will shut up all those nay-sayers from months ago, where are they now?
