Renegade Inquisitor with a Bound Daemon

Tied and gagged in the back of your car

...Just in a state of hibernation...

Anyway, it's been a long while, so I figure I should update them a bit...

First we have a Vangaurd Veteran equipped with a Lightning Claw and Storm Shield. He was actually completed a while ago, but I never got around to getting pictures until now.

Next up, another model that I never got around to taking pics of. In the one proxy game I played with him, I ran him as Dante, but because of a new direction I plan on taking, he'll probably just count as a Death Company when I'm done with him.

And lastly, the "Counts as Astaroth" model. Fluffwise, he'll be the guy who leads the Gallowsmen to a more radical position...

Greenstuff. Basically chopped off the entire 'snout' and rebuilt it with greenstuff. Pain in the ass, but I like the way it looks.

You can get a really close view of the helmet by clicking on the image and zooming in. They're really high resolution (my cellphone is freaking awesome).

*whistles* damn thats quite a good resulution for a cell phone...
will you do more helmets in that fashion? that would make the look more functioning looking...if he is the sole one with that helmet i fear lots of peeps will think he fell on his nose... but if his squad was to be equiped with siad helmet then that would be a theme...

It's a possibility. The Vangaurd Squad will only number 5 men, so a few of them might get the 'helmet upgrade.'

Hi Fafnir,

excellent conversion work here. Your green stuff skills are amazing, very smooth and seemingly well-balanced. Also, I like your using of a fist-based weapon in combination with a Storm Shield. I'm builiding a somewhat similar fellow, and although I am sure that this combination wouldn't work in a real battle, it still looks bad @$$ ^^

However, there is something that somewhat strikes me here... The first fellow's eyes do look great (simple and effective), but his helmet seems to have been painted with less care... Especially the white seems quite thick. Compared to your DKOK commissar and your ork, it somehow seems to have been rushed.
Apologies if I do you any wrong.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's the white I've been using that's the problem. It tends to go on thicker than I'd like (what makes it worse is that I use white primer in the first place, so there's not even very many layers). It also shows up a lot on ligher skin tones, so I'm pretty sure the problem is in the white I'm using (Vallejo Foundation White).

The main problem with the head is that I was trying to make it look really scrapped and damaged, while retaining a fairly functional appearance, so there was a lot of back and forth with trying to figure out what a good appearance would be.

I would say that it's not so much less care, but too much. I kept going back and changing things on the helmet. The paint looked too thick to begin with, so I tried covering that up with some wear and tear, and then that looked like too much, so I ended up painting over that, and so on and so on.

It's also worth noting that the wear and tear that was done on this guy (and the other truescales before him) would end up being the prototype for the wear that I did for my Warboss's bike.

And to help mitigate your worries, a Powerfist/Lightning Claw+Storm Shield combo is very possible in-game. Although it can only be done on a few elite units.

Don't get me wrong, ruleswise it sure is possible - but try to fight with a boxing glove and a shield. That's what I meant. :-)

Vallejo Foundation White? Okay, that's "scary". I wanted to use Vallejo rather than Citadel in the near future... Are there any other issues with their colours?

Hope I didn't say that before (or forgot it), but I'm looking forward to seeing more of these guys. I'm really excited how the SW-head-chap will look like after you've finished him.

Short of the experience with that white (which I can't even conclusively say is the problem, although so far it seems to be the cause), Vallejo is wonderful. Much wider selection, much better container, and the paints themselves are just as good, if not better than GW (they need less watering down, which is a huge plus). Also, you pay much less for Vallejo when you compare the volume of paint you actually get.

Really, considering how many bad pots of GW paint I've had, and this being the first Vallejo pot that's ever given me problems, I'd say that you have nothing to worry about going over to Vallejo. GW used to have the best metallics, but Vallejo's 'Vallejo Air' line pretty much beats the crap out of anything GW's done (since Vallejo Air is meant to be used with airbrushes, the metallic particles are super small, which makes the paint itself look much better and much more realistic). If it weren't for the fact that no place near me sells Vallejo Air, almost every single colour I use would be Vallejo. Right now, the only non-Vallejo colours I use are Purple and most of my Metallics (although all the gold I use is Vallejo Model Colour).
