So what's the value of box sets / single miniatures in terms of cost per point?
For example a box of 10 Tactical Marines cost £23.00 and a standard squad is valued at 170pts, so the cost per point = £0.14
In contrast, a box of 12 Necons costs £20.50 and would make a 216pt squad so their cost per point = £0.09
Over in Fantasy, if you use a box of 20 Clanrats (£20.50) as 20 Skaven Slaves with shields, the cost per point is a staggering £0.41, whereas the cost per point of the eccentrically priced Greatswords (including command) is actually only £0.20.
So can you find the best / worst value for money?

I suppose it varies greatly depending on the parts you get in the kit, for example:
1: Tac Marines with Flamer and Rockets - 170 points, £0.14 pp
2: Tac Marines with Plasma Gun, Plasma Pistol, Power Weapon, Rockets - 205 points, £0.11 pp
3p difference for an extra 45 points, makes you think how much it can alter between some of the more complex kits.

WOTR probably has the worst cost per point unit, Sharkey's Ruffians. A company of eight models sets you back 40 usd. You get one point for every four dollars you spend!

On the other hand, in WOTR a formation of 6 Knights of Dol Amroth costs £20.50, for a 250 point formation (with full command. Of course, you could create three useless formations with full command for more points, but that might be a little pointless ), which works out as 8.2p per point.
Meanwhile, in 40k a unit of 10 Wyches will set you back £15.50. With all possible options, that would make 207 points, or 7.5p per point. Or, you could field them as Hekatrix Bloodbrides, with full options, for a maximum of 235 points, or 6.6p per point.
Or even better, get some Kabalite troops (£15.50 for ten) and field them as Trueborn with the most pricey options, and you can get a whopping 335 points (this is fielding two dark lances, four blasters, haywire grenades, and giving the Dracon ghostplate armour, a phantasm grenade launcher, a blast pistol and an agoniser. I'm not sure how many of those bits you actually get in a box, though, not having any kabalites in my army). That would be 4.6p per point. Tasty.
(also, a unit that would invariably be wiped out in seconds for no gain, but never mind that, eh )

The Rhino is pretty shocking. Costs £20.50 but only has a value of 35pts which equals £0.59 per point.

Eldar War Walkers are around 1$/point, but your most expensive would probably be skavenslaves with the metal sling blister addons, that's several dollars per point.
