I wanted to get started in warhammer ancient battles, but for the life of me I cannot find anything about it on the gamesworkshop site. Where are these models sold?

GW does not make historical figures. Lucky for us, there are dozens of companies which do a very fine job of it. If you have an army/period in mind, we can make recommendations or you can check out a link list like this one: http://warhammer.org.uk/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=21409

And we can all be thankful for that! The last thing the hobby needs is them throwing their legal weight around claiming they invented the Romans

I'd probably recommend using scales of say 1/72, 15mm or lower
Easier to find units for a lot of armies that way

Seconded. There have been several times where I wished that WHFB was 72mm. If you're just starting with Warhammer Historical, don't get sucked into the 28mm trap.

Don't know why folks are disagreeable with 28mm - I rather like being able to see my figures on the table.
But if your looking to save a few dollars with 15mm - the scale is well represented in historical play with DBA, FOG and a number of other games.

I wouldn't say people are disagreeable with 28mm. I have two 28mm armies and three 15mm armies myself, in ancients.
15mm is more popular in the UK, perhaps because of smaller table sizes.
The range of armies available in 15mm is slightly greater than 25/28mm.
I think WHAB players tend to go for 28mm because that is what the rules specify.

Personlly I went for 15mm but I can see the use of 28mm models for gaming as well. But for me anything above 20mm is skirmish fodder.
I have limited space thats why I use 15mm, but you may want to check out 15mm alternative armies. Some good sculpts at a decent price.
However Warlord games have been pushing some really nice plastic 28mm stuff recently. Oh dear I feel myself reaching for the credit card again.
