Hey everyone,
We will be hosting our 'Second Saturday'
GW tournament this weekend on Saturday, February 12. We had a good turnout last month and it seemed like everyone had a good time. I've been playtesting and fiddling with the custom elements of the scenarios to help integrate them into the standard missions as seamlessly as possible.
For the
40k side bring 2000 points; I've adjusted the battle points a bit based on player feedback over the last couple months, and we'll be shaking up the scenario mix and including some stuff that's not straight out of the
BRB, to help keep things interesting. Please make sure to have your models and army list ready to go when you arrive! Starting with this event I will be instituting the following bonus points:
+1 tournament point for being at the store and ready to play at 10:00am
+1 tournament point for being back on time from lunch
(thanks to Yakface for that one!)
For Fantasy Battle, we will be ready to run at 2250 points; I'll be mixing up the scenarios including throwing in some older-style stuff and rolling in a new soft score concept this time.
For both events, we will be running 3 rounds starting at 10:00am, with a $10 entry (or $20 purchase). There will be prizes for Best Overall, Best General, Best Sportsman, and Best Army. Prizes are awarded in
GW product of the winner's choice.
Everyone was happy with the new prize split, so we will be sticking with the 75-25-25-25 split for prizes.
The schedule will stick as closely as possible to the following:
9:00am - 10:15 - check-in, sign-up, event preamble, pairings
10:15am - 12:30pm - Round 1
12:30 - 1:00 - Lunch
1:00 - 3:15 - Round 2
3:30 - 5:45 - Round 3
6:00 - Winners announced
It all goes down at Game Empire Pasadena
2302 E. Colorado Blvd.
Pasadena,

I have started a thread for this event at the new Game Empire Pasadena forums,
http://gameempirepasadena.com/forum/index.php, so you can check that out as well.
Finally, if anyone out there is interested in being available as a 'ringer' for the at least the first round or two, I would be very appreciative and spiff you accordingly. Basically, you'd pay no entry fee, only have to play for the first round or two as your schedule permits, and get some swag in exchange for making sure the odd man has an actual game, instead of just free points. And if we get a even number of players, you'd be free to hang or bail as you see fit.
I'm tossing around the idea of running the next couple events at lower points levels and I will be asking players during the day what they think. Finally, as per the discussion here on dakka of recent weeks, I will be including a space on the results sheet to note down how many turns each game went, so I can start figuring out how long games are going. Hopefully, this data will help me root out problematic elements to be aware of so that everyone gets a full game as often as possible. I know games not going to at least 5 turns occurs, though I haven't noticed it to be a huge problem in recent months. We'll see though, once I start collecting info on how long the games are actually going!
If you have any comments or questions, let me know here or give a call to the store, and hopefully I'll see you there!
