hey guys, the story is this: quite a few years back, when i think COD4 was coming out, and so i searched for it on youtube. one of the videos i saw saying 'call of duty 4' was in fact some other game. i cannot remember the name of it but i realise now i might actually be interested in it

The gameplay i saw was set at night, where you are riding into a city (possibly Grozny, i'm not sure) as a russian on a load of tanks and APCs. well lets just say you kill a lot of people, but a lot of your guys get killed as well (and a hell of a lot of RPGs are shot at you). it is like a modern shooter with a normal fps view. to make it any easier for some of you to recognise it (if you do), your cross hair is a white circle instead of the usual COD style crosshair. some help will be greatly appreciated!

S.T.A.L.K.E.R?

I think stalker is the only FPS I can remember that is in that setting. It is sort of like Fallout 3 in it's setting. It is also like fallout 3 in that it is a sort of RPG/FPS. All in all, it is an excellent game, but it is not forgiving. It is not one of those games where you can get hit a dozen times and still live. Usually it is one hit, and you are bleeding and limping, next hit and you might be dead, third and you are dead.

hmmmm... doesn't look like it. the game i remember seeing was basically a COD style FPS with limited HUD and stuff. i'll have to do some more research. i'm not fully aware of where it is set, i was just guessing it was in russia or chechnya since it was all T- tanks and BMPs. sorry guys :(

Only FPS series I know that are set in Russia are STALKER and Metro 2033.

Was it modern setting, apocalyptic, futuristic, semi-futiristic?

Were there soviet symbols and such?

What about the one that was set in stalingrad (red orchresta) not sure about the name.

it seemed very modern, so late 20th century early 21st. nothing which made it look that futuristic. the guy you play had an assault rifle with a sort-of red-dot sight and a UGL aswell. (again i mention the circular cross hair as it is very unique, iv'e never seen it in a fps)

i think red orchestra is WW2, so i don't think so.

No Sir, I've been looking for exactly the same game.

Bit of background: Perhaps 6 months or so before COD4 was released, some gameplay footage of an untitled and previously unheard of FPS was leaked on the internet. The footage showed Russian troops, mounted on APCs engaging in MOUT in some Grozny-esque place. Prior to this footage being leaked, it was rumoured that the next COD game would be set in the modern era, so when the footage of this game was released, everybody assumed that they were looking at leaked footage of the next COD game.

This was not the case. The main, and most probable explanation was that it was footage from an upcoming Gathering of Developers/Illusion Softworks (developers of Hidden & Dangerous, Vietcong, and Mafia) title.

Unfortunately, I have been unable to dig up the original leaked video. The sheer number of Call of Duty videos or anything with the words "Russian" and "FPS" makes this an almost impossible task. I can confirm however that the game was never released, if that puts your mind at ease.

thank you! MY SAVIOUR! yep it was definitely the way you describe it, and it was 6 months or so before COD 4. but i wonder why it was never released? it looked pretty good. perhaps the devs ran out of money or something?
