Hey Dakka. I haven't been on here in ages. Sorry.

I was the injured party in this video. I can say that for me the real hinge point of the game was turn 3 or 4(?) when the second daemon prince had 1 wound left, which I failed to finish off, and then I lost both my HQs in the next round of assault.
Very tight game indeed - if a few cover saves had gone differently I could have won, and I'm sure Klueless can say that if a few difficult terrain or vehicle damage checks or deepstrike/reserve rolls had gone differently he would have been home and clear. Oh well, I'll win next time. That army always gives me some problems, and perhaps next time I face it he'll have painted some more!

Klueless, I can understand Deep Striking combi-M termies, but why Deep Strike the Oblits at all? They have great long range guns that can shoot Turn 1 ... Given capricious Reserve Rolls, I have not DSed mine yet.

IBHTE: Nice looking paint job on your vehicles, good vibrant green & blue.

The reason you deepstrike Obliterators is because they have a low chance of mishap and they have Multi-Meltas.

Thanks man!

Actually what pisses me off about this particular army is that klueless deepstrikes so bloody much, knowing that if nothing else he'll get one clean shot at me. He never, ever seems to mishap or scatter much. Really, stupidly risky things like putting his men in a 3" gap between my tank and a building, and it always seems to go smoothly for him. I'm waiting for the one glorious game when 3-4 of his units are lost in the warp!

This. I play with 2 Obliterator cults, each with 2 oblits. The one that began on the table had very dismal results with lascannons hitting vindicators and Land Raiders on the front armor from afar. In turn 3, my other cult arrived via DS and even with some deviation they vaporized the vindicator's demolisher cannon with multi-meltas right when they arrived, rained plasma cannon death on the enemy home objective, then blew up the same vindi when it got funny and kept trying to tank shock them.

The cult that started on the table had to run up to multi-melta the land raider.

So basically, the decision to Deep Strike is the decision to sacrifice some turns of shooting (hopefully few) to obtain better shots at protected targets (behind cover or too distant for the 'right' weapon) later on.

In Boxing matches, you actually get paid to take a dive and make the other guy look good.

In Warhammer 40K, you're expected to pay cash out of your pocket for the privilege of having Marines and IG trample all over your Xenos/Chaos.

I think everyone is onto the reason why I DS my Obliterators now.
The basic aim of my army is to throw confusion behind enemy ranks. Even if only one or two of my 5 DS units comes on in turn two, it's something you have to deal with or they'll be mashing up more vehicles in the next turn. While they're soaking up fire it leaves 4 units of plague marines & 2 daemon princes to charge forward... In theory anyway.
Another thing, all my DS units are cheap as chips, with the Obliterators being the most expensive. Am I really gonna be gutted if my 120 point Raptor squad gets killed, or my 105 point combi termies get wiped? No.
The Obliterators I'm usually a bit more careful with on the DS, as for the cheap units, be cheeky. Those 1" gaps behind tanks are there to be exploited!
