I emailed my friend asking for his load out , so I'll post what he had soon (he played tau).

My list (Tyranids):
HQ
1 - Hive Tyrant w/ twinlinked Devourers (w/ Brain leeches), Hive Commander, Regeneration, & Old adversary - 255 points

TROOPS
25 - Termagants , no options - 125 points
1 - Tervigon w/ Adrenal Glands, Toxic Sacs, Regeneration, Catalyst - 235
16 - Genestealers w/ Scything Talons - 224 points
4 - Warriors w/ Bone swords - 160 points

ELITE
3 - Zoanthropes w/ a Mycetic Spore transport - 220 points

HEAVY SUPPORT
1 - Trygon Prime w/ Regeneration
- - - - - - - - -

Now onto the game! :

Deployment - Tau went first, Tyranid didn't steal Init
Spearhead - Annhilation game

Turn 1 -
-Tau move up, open up on Termagants, Lost about 16 Gants.
-Tyranid's ran up and engaged infiltrated kroot, wiped them out. Tervigon spawned 8 termagants and gummed himself up (rolled a 4 and 2x 2's).
Kill points: Tau - 0, Tyranids - 1

Turn 2 -
-Shooting commenced on the gant unit and annhilated it.
-Tyranid's rolls reserves, all reserves arrive - Mycetic spore w/ Zoanthropes arrive - Zoanthropes roll terribly - psychic test - 1 pass, 1 double 1's, 1 fail. The double 1 failed invul save & then missed, the one that passed missed. Trygon Prime showed up and shot and did nothing, and Genestealers outflanked and tore apart the scout unit that was infiltrating. Hive Tyrant assaulted firewarriors outside of Devilfish, killed them all.
Kill points: Tau - 1, Tyranids - 3

Turn 3 -
-Tau unloaded on the zoanthropes - almost no invul saves were made, Zoan's were wiped out. Shots fired at Trygon Prime, 1 wound inflicted.
-Genestealers make a run for the tau, as do the warriors and the termagants that were spawned by the tervigon. Tervigon proceeds to provide Tyrant with Feel no pain as the tyrant destroys the Pirahna speeder. Trygon Prime destroys the Hammerhead gunship with a rail gun.
Kill points: Tau - 2 , Tyranids - 5

Turn 4 -
-Tau proceed to focus fire at the trygon prime, they end up gunning him down with lots of missiles and rail gun shots.
-Hive tyrant rounds the corner and engages some battle suits -destroys one of them.
Kill points: Tau - 3, Tyranids - 5

Turn 5 -
-Devilfish moves 12", unloads remaining fire warriors and shoot at warriors and gants taking cover (trying to save points lol). They do 2 wounds to a warrior. Tyrant and remaining battlesuit duke it out, Tyrant wins and consolidates to other battlesuits.
-Genestealers have moved far enough that they can assault the Firewarriors, utterly wipe them out. Tyrant moves and assaults the other group of battlesuits (with the HQ).
Kill points: Tau - 3, Tyranids - 7

Turn 6 -
-Devilfish tries to get away from genestealers, not much else it can do at this point. Broadsiders open fire at the tyrant and down him. One last broadsider open fires at the Genestealers and kills two.
-Genestealers make chase , however since the devilfish moved 12" at cruising speed they needed 6's to hit, only 2 hits, no pen's or glances.
Kill points: Tau - 4, Tyranids - 7

Turn 7 - Game ended. Final Kill points: Tau - 4, Tyranids - 7

Overall, great game, the dice were a CRUEL mistress in the beginning and I thought I was done for for sure.

Pictures coming soon, I gotta jet for dinner! I'll post more details later as well, Just wanted to post what I can remember right now

Why, on Turn 1, would the tau player *move up*?

It sounds like the Tau guy missed the booming anncouncement.

Why'd he infiltrate the Kroot close enough for them to be assaulted first turn? Big mistake there. Always use Kroot as tarpit and blockage units.

Well, he kept all of his ranged guys pretty far back, I just put A LOT of pressure on him with the Trygon Prime and Genestealers outflanking his scouts (though the 'stealers would have done more damage had they of infiltrated on his starting side of the board, oh well). I think with the Kroot he planned on stopping the swarm advance, but of course with Adrenal glands, toxic sacs, and preferred enemy (yay tervigon + hive tyrant combo) they had far too many attacks for him and ended up making him fail his morale roll.

You couldn't have at least put down a basic tau list?

HQ suit guy,
two groups of 3 suits with some guns,
two groups of firewarriors with devilfish,
a big group of kroot
A pirahna (or 2)
two groups of 3 broadside suits.

That would have sufficed, and made it much easier to read. Just sayin'

Agreed. Good battle though
