So is it closer to Medieval 2 or Empire?

I got the Steam demo but it would stop responding before I even made it to the main-menu.
But it's not a huge deal in the end. I think I'll prefer Medieval II simply for the setting. Which is odd since one of my majors is Asian History, and I take Japanese...Medieval studies was a close second though....

I wish they made a shogun game that isnt in just japan but mongolia ,China Thailand, Burma, Vietnam, India and Tebit .
I feel we are going to get less in a campaign to more adavance tactical battles then just strategy and thats fine but I feel thier will be a lack of variety of units due to it being just japan.

Just played the demo, and honestly it feels like Medieval 2 with a Japanese theme; archers are still underpowered (at least, that's what it felt like to me in M2 and still feels in this) and cavalry is still overpowered (which is unfortunate, seeing as that was what I disliked most about M2; the fact that cavalry charges are utterly devestating against everything except spears, which I still managed to kill through repeated use of spearhead, withdraw, spearhead; but honestly, I can just set all my others on the spears and use cavalry against everything else).
Can't say anything about the naval stuff yet, but on land it feels very much like cavalry continue to rule over everything else by a significant margin.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

My scottish pikes laughed at cavalry based armies. And everything else too outside of gunpowder really.

Even mounted ranged units? Horse archers run so many rings around things it's unbelievable.

Thats all pretty historically accurate though, as long as the cav units and archers are priced for balance then it'll be ok.

Sure, because my pikes are supported by highland noble archers, the best infantry archers in the game, and mere horse bows don't scare my chainmail wearing axe wielding archers of doom.
Supported by Hospitallers (hardly a difficult thing to obtain), Scotland is the strongest army in the game until the introduction of gunpowder, but only because they don't have any gunpowder units themselves.
