Dark Angels Neophyte Undergoing Surgeries

I showed up at a store in west Michigan today. They had a 40k league going on, but I was lucky enough to get a game in with one of the guys who was free at the time being. We use the league's rules for the game and the mission.

Thanks to everyone who makes it through this wall of text! I'll try to get some pictures in next time!!!

My List: (no upgrades on anything accept the squads of horrors.)
Fateweaver
4 Bloodcrushers
3 Flamers
6 Horrors w/ Changling & Bolt
6 Horrors w/ Bolt
5 Plaguebearers
5 Plaguebearers
Soul Grinder
Soul Grinder

My Opponent's List: (I didn't get a real good look at my opponent's list, so I'm describing it as their powers effected my army. I'm not sure if he had wolf guard in his army, if he did they never had an impact)
Wolf Lord - Frost Blade, Rune Armor, Saga of the Bear and Inv. Save (4++)
Rune Priest - Jaws of the World Wolf, Rune Armor, and Inv. Save (4++)
Rune Priest Jaws of the World Wolf, Rune Armor and no Inv. Save
9 Grey Hunters w/ Melta & Drop Pod
9 Grey Hunters w/ Melta & Drop Pod
9 Grey Hunters w/ Melta & Drop Pod
6 Long Fangs w/ Squad Leader (no upgrades) 2 Heavy Bolters, 2 Missile Launchers, Multi-Melta, Lascannon
Razorback w/ Twin-Linked Lascannons

Table Set:

For the sake of describing the table with ease, my opponent's table edge will be described as north, my table edge will be south, east is right and west is left respectively.

It was rouge trader style competition. For those who don't know what that means (I sure didn't), the owner of the store came and threw 7 cards down on the table. I drew first for primary objective - objectives. My opponent drew kill points for secondary and for tertiary we had victory points. An objective was placed in each table quarter, 12" from the sides of the table as normal and at least 12" from each other. The northeast corner was as close to the table edges as rules would permit. The other corners were placed in a 'L' as close to the center of the table and each other as possible.

My opponent won the roll to go first and elected to go second. Deployment zones were along the lengths of the table ledges. Being demons I didn't deploy anything, he deployed his squad of Long Fangs into a forest along the North West table quarter and the Razorback just a bit away from them.

Turn 1:
I divided up my waves so that I would have a a squad of Horrors and Plaguebearers and a Soul Grinder in each wave. The Flamers and Fateweaver were in wave 1, the Bloodcrushers were in wave 2. I got some luck and came in with my first wave. The Flamers arrived on target right next to the Long Fangs hiding in the forest. The Soul Grinder appeared in front of the Razorback. The Fateweaver scattered and landed between southern two objectives. Horrors land on target 3" away from him. The Plaguebearers scatter southwest and land a few inches shy of Fateweaver's aura of protection. The Flamers torch the squad of Long Fangs hiding in the woods and kill all but 2 of them. The Fateweaver and the Horrors shoot and finish off the rest of them. Soul Grinder runs towards the Razorback and the Plaguebears book it 1" towards the Fateweaver still outside of the range of his protection.

My opponent's turn comes and he brings in the squad with the Wolf Lord which lands south at the board edge with a straight line on the Fateweaver. The other with the inv. save Rune Priest lands right on top of the horrors. He shoots his Razorback at the Soul Grinder which misses, even with twin-linked. He then uses Jaws of the World Wolf to shoot at my Plaguebearers hitting Fateweaver, 2 Horrors, and 3 Plaguebearers. I lose a Horror and a Plaguebearer. The squad misses the chance to shoot because the Plaguebearers were so far away. The squad with the Wolf Lord rapid fires into the Plaguebearers, killing 1 more.

Turn 2:
Nothing else comes in except for the squad of Bloodcrushers which land south at the board edge but slightly east of the Grey Hunters and the Wolf Lord. The flamers move and destroy the Rune Priest's Drop Pod. The Soul Grinder moves and assaults the Razorback, which failed to move during my opponent's turn. He kills turning it into a nice piece of scenery. Plaguebearers move 1". The Fateweaver casts Breath of Chaos, Demonic Gaze, and Bolt of Tzeentch at the squad with the Rune Priest and combined with the fire coming from the Horrors they kill all but 3 and the Rune Priest. The Fateweaver assaults the remained of the squad leaving just the Rune Priest and 1 Grey Hunter. I forget to run in the assault phase for my Bloodcrushers & Plaguebearers don't get very far this turn.

On his turn he gets his last unit of Grey Hunters with the Rune Priest. They land by the board edge across from the middle of the 'L'. He casts Jaws of the World Wolf and kills some Plaguebearers, Horrors, and the Fateweaver. His shooting is pretty ineffective and he kills only a couple of the Horrors leaving 2. They get assaulted by the Rune Priest and his pal, leaving 1 who then dies due to fearless.

Turn 3:
This turn goes badly for the Wolves. Everything else comes in. The horrors claim the Northeast objective in the far corner. The Plaguebearers land on the Southeast corner claiming the end of the 'L'. The Soul Grinder scatters, lands on the Plaguebearers, and mishaps back into the warp. The Bloodcrushers move up and assault the squad of Grey Hunters with the Wolf Lord. They put 11 wounds on the Grey Hunters killing all but the Wolf Lord. He remains locked in combat with the Bloodcrushers. The Soul Grinder moves down towards the squad with the no inv. save Rune Priest. The Flamers take cover behind it. The Plaguebearers shamble towards the squad w/ the Rune Priest that just arrived.

The squad with the no inv. save Rune Priest shoot the Plaguebearers with bolt pistols leaving 1. The Rune Priest casts Jaws which kills 2 of the Bloodcrushers that are locked in combat with the Lord. They assault, killing the squad and consolidate towards the middle 'L' objective. The Wolf Lord and the Blood Crushers duke it out, he takes one wound and the Bloodcrushers take two leaving 1 Bloodcrusher. The other Rune Priest and the surviving member of his squad use Jaws on the other unit of Plaguebearers, killing 1.

Turn 4:
The Flamers move up and put enough wounds on no inv. save Rune Priest's Squad to drop it to only him and a pair of Grey Hunters. In the assault phase the Soul Grinder moves, runs and charges into them killing one of the Grey Hunters leaving only the Rune Priest and a pal as they remain locked in combat. They Wolf Lord wins the combat and consolidates towards the remaining squad of Plaguebearers.

At the start of the Space Wolves' turn only the Rune Priests and the Wolf Lord remain. The unengaged Wolf Lord and Rune Priest run towards the Plaguebearers claiming the objective. The Soul Grinder kills the other Rune Priest and the remainder of his squad.

Turn 5:
The last Soul Grinder shows up again, lands in some difficult terrain but doesn't get immobilized. He shoots the harvester gun at the Wolf Lord putting 1 wound on him. Everything else moves towards the objectives, out of range of the Rune Priest and the Wolf Lord. I think I fail to move some stuff, but the game is basically won at this point so its no big deal.

Only 3 Space Wolves remain out of the entire army. He runs towards the objective to contest, forgetting the squad in the Northeast corner. The game ends on a roll of 1.

Conclusion:

With one held objective and one contested objective I win the primary. He has 4 killpoints (Fateweaver, Plaguebearers, Horrors w/ Changling, and Bloodcrushers) I have 6 killpoints (Long Fangs, Razorback, Drop Pod, Rune Priest, Grey Hunters 1&2) giving me the secondary. With 688 victory points to almost his entire army I claim the tertiary objective too. Unfortunately not being the league that means nothing except for a good solid win.

It was my first game against the Space Wolves and his first game against the Demons. I didn't learn anything I didn't already know - Rune Priests are nasty to demons, Jaws of the World Wolf are even meaner, and demons murder even the most elite infantry based of armies.
