I am getting ready for the BFG tournament at Adepticon next month and I played my first practice game the other day. I know it is late to start play testing and I'm not expecting miracles, but I would like to be as best prepared as possible. It's been a while since I've played BFG and I've never played Eldar so yesterday did not go very well. The fleet composition is fairly well set but I will post it here and I'm open to making small changes if you guys think I need to. Here is my fleet list (updated based on the 2010 FAQ), I'm not sold on the rerolls or the precise numbers of the escorts so if you would fudge with some of that let me know.
Eldar Hero w/ 2 Rerolls
175 pts
Flame of Asuryan
320 pts
Eclipse
250 pts
3 Aconites (they are 55 pts in the FAQ)
165 pts
2 Aconites
110 pts
2x3 Nightshades
240 pts
2x3 Hemlocks
240 pts
1500 pts
I played against Orks and I feel that my major problem was that I was too afraid of the fragility of my ships so I didn't engage quickly enough and I went to great lengths to avoid and kill his ordinance (since I saw it really hurt a chaos fleet in the previous game). He had a space hulk which could put out massive amounts, but once it hit me I really just shrugged it off, however by that point it was already the end of turn 2 and we only got 1 more turn in our 2 hour time limit(part of our problem was rules queries and stuff too so....). I also split my fleet and wasn't able to put out enough damage I crippled 2 kill kroozers. Granted he really didn't do alot to me either, killed a few escorts and crippled the eclipse. So the game was probably a draw. I feel in an 8 turn game with unlimited time where I could wait him out and get behind him and pick him apart I would have done fine, but in two hours I needed to be aggressive, which doesn't seem to fit with Eldar strengths.
I guess what I'm really looking for is a break down of Eldar tournament tactics, by some people who've played them or against them. and what tactics I should use against different fleets. I was kind of sitting looking at the table not sure if I should go foward or back. Like I said, I don't expect to go down there and win the whole thing, and I will play more games and maybe even get into another tourney before adepticon, but I would just like some general Eldar tournament strategy that keeps in mind the two hour time limit. Please give me some feedback.

Well, I have played corsair Eldar, but never in a tournament setting...what is the table set-up going to be? Your tactics are going to depend a lot on what kind of phenomena you have to hide behind.

Heya,
cool fleet starter with the awesomely excellent flame of asuryan.
Now personally I would ditch the Eclipse and replace it with an Aurora and escorts. Or no Aurora and escorts.
Especially Hemlocks and the mega Nightshades!
Eldar in tournaments are difficult since tourneys do not have a lot of terrain usually.
Be a git, use terrain, hide hide hide if needed. One strike is enough.

What about dropping the eclipse, 2 aconites and a reroll for a Void Stalker, what do you guys think about that?

Heh, I'll say that it will look exactly like my Corsair Eldar fleet.

I always use the void stalker it is the best ship in the fleet and the only one realy with longer range 45cm weps that can strike an enemy without the worry of still being within his 30cm weps next turn
nevr bothered with rerolls for eldar myself would rather spend points elsewere
but i have now strayed from the path and now play necrons and FW tau more oftern
thats my view but then we all play different

I'm gonna end up dropping the eclipse, 2 aconites and a reroll for the Void Stalker. I get more overall firepower at a longer range and the VS seems much more survivable than the other 3 ships. What about generally accepted fleet tactics. It was said that tourneys don't have a whole lot of terrain. Is moving foward full speed, shooting, and turning around and moving back a viable tactic. What are some other tactics people have used or used against you in the past. Either general tactics or tactics against specific fleets, it would be nice if we could turn this thread into a sort of Tactica. Let me know what has been successful (or destroyed you, or hasn't worked at all)

Well, if you are facing an IN fleet, you need to focus on taking out his weapons batteries. Swords should be public enemy #1, as they are fast and maneuverable enough to be a serious threat. After that, you should prioritize anything that has range, such as Overlords or upgraded Tyrants. Tackling a battleship, if there is one, will be a tricky proposition, as the Emperor and Retribution both have a lot of range 60 batteries to threaten you with. My first instinct would be to whittle away the lighter supporting vessels, allowing you to isolate the battleship and take it down in one or two focused attacks. However, that approach might not work depending on terrain and set-up.

Be a git.
Try to get to the rear of the enemy. Or keep them dead prow on.
