I will soon be starting WOTR, I've decided I'm going to do dwarves from Durin's time (Khazad Dum list) allied with elves from rivendell and lothlorien. At the moment I don't even have the WOTR rule book just to let you know but I am getting it soon I just wanted to know if you had any tips or hints before i start buying new models as well as any tips for WOTR in general, thanks.

I play:
Imperial Fists - 9000 pts
Tyranids - 1500 pts

GENERATION 9: The first time you see this, copy and paste it into your sig and add 1 to the number after generation. Consider it a social experiment.

There is a big dwarf army on eBay right now. Guy has like 24 khazad guard in it.

Never count on rolling to save your ass. More often than not, average in tight situations runs far below average.

You may be familiar with the way the LotR figures are packaged. A box of 24 dwarf warriors will give you one company of archers, one company of warriors with shields, and one company of warriors with two-handed weapons, so you'll want at least three boxes to start with, probably more. (I mix my warriors up together and make sure my opponent knows what they are supposed to be armed with, and no one has complained so far.) A box of dwarf Rangers, though, will give you three companies of rangers.
The same sort of breakdown applies to the elves, and most other boxes. The exceptions are Easterlings, Uruks, and Army of the Dead, which come only 20 to a box.

Gimli & Dain are both very good heroes. You will also want Gandalf, and possibly Radagast or even Sauruman. For your elves, definitely Galadriel, and Celeborn does not suck, either- though if you are using the elves as allies you may run into points-limitations issues.

I have mixed feelings about the dwarf artillery. Artillery in general is rather weak in WotR, and the dwarf models are not cheap. So you are paying a premium dollar cost for units that are not that great on the table. The same applies to most of the other metal units- when you need a few for LotR, you can afford the premium price, but when you need multiple companies of eight, it gets ridiculous.

He's got a mind like a steel trap. By which I mean it can only hold one idea at a time;
it latches on to the first idea to come along, good or bad; and it takes strenuous effort with a crowbar to make it let go.

I also collect elves, mainly galadhrim, and they are very cool. I recommend getting some galadhrim knights, otherwise you wont be able to have any calvalry in your force. The dwarves will be very hard to kill, even the basic troops and the khazad guard will probably attract fire, so you could use basic wood elves as a meat shield - theyre pretty cheap in points. Galadriel in war form, fight value 10!! Good luck!

Ork Snakebites: 2500pts
Ultramarines: 2000pts
Skaven: 2000pts
Galadhrim Elves: 1500pts
