so i am going to be on a brief trip to DC, and have at least a little time to play with. i'd like to check out a great store, since i live in a small town, and rarely go to brick-and-mortar places. i am ideally looking for places like the incredible Games Plus in the Chicago area, or The Source in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area. can anyone make any recommendations? i'm not looking to buy any GW retail, though my interest is 90% in 40K (but i prefer the discounts online) but i would like to find hard to find stuff, modeling supplies, accessories, etc.

any tips greatly appreciated!

I leave tomorrow morning and will be in the DC area through Sunday morning... so hopefully a place open during Thursday and Friday, the later the better!

The store finder up top has locations and some info.

The big question is do you have a car? None of the stores in the DC area are easy to get to by Metro.

For supplies and models I recommend Hobby Works, it's primarily a model shop with some 40k stuff and they have tons of models I've not seen anywhere else. Good for things like Pegasus Terrain, plasticard, and sci-fi models.

But it's 45 minutes drive from DC.

Compleat Strategist and Victory Comics are both fairly close to East Falls Church Metro and have some unexpected stuff. They're about a 15 minute walk from each other too. CS is a pure gaming shop, VC is a mixed comic/toy/gaming shop.

Hope this helps.

どうもありがとう、京都先生!非常に助かります。

I *WILL* have a car (rental car) thankfully. I will be staying in Virginia DC suburbs, specifically near Dulles airport. The Symposium I'm going to will be in DC itself, and I will also be spending time hanging out with folks from Baltimore (and flying into/out of the Baltimore airport)

I'll take a look at some places you've mentioned on the interwebz, and hopefully find a way to fit a visit into my schedule. I was very disappointed to learn that GW moved their US HQ from Maryland to Tennessee...

Iie douitashimashite! (work computer can't do Japanese)

If you're out by Dulles then Games Parlor Chantilly should be your first stop. It's a big comic/games store with more space for games.

It seems to be in decline, not getting as much new stuff as it used to but it's good for finding OOP stuff like Star Ship troopers, Warzone and even some old Shadowrun minis.

The fact they have so much of all that may be why they're in decline...

But definitely worth a trip for you.

Cool, I'll definitely check out Games Parlor as well as Hobby Works. I have a little bit of time to play with, particularly on Friday.

Thanks again!
