That was an originally dumb question. Anyway, I have the Fluff sorted out completely, due to work not needing much brain power.
I am trying to make each of the three factions unique, but first, some game mechanics;
I am unsure how to due points costs or anything, but...
Damage Resistance and Saves: The goal of the game is to encourage players to "Play like they got a pair", as Warmachine puts it. To encourage that, I have created a system using Damage, Damage Resistance, and Armor Saves.
Damage is always a high number, with Health being anywhere from (Max) 150 to (Lowest) 25. Damage resistance is taken straight off the top of Damage, it represents the creatures natural Toughness/the force of the blow the Armor absorbs. So a Damage rating of 50 hitting a target with Damage Resistance (15) will only deal 35 Damage. However, if the target makes it's armor save (variable by model), it completely negates the blow, taking no damage at all because it's armor completely stops it. These factors will (hopefully) encourage people to take riskier actions, because of a Psychologic "Safe state of mind", explained poorly, but I hope you know what I mean.
All shooting hits on a 4+, to try to keep it simple. The Xykon are the only ones capable of bypassing this, detailed later.
Fluffy Stuffy: The Year is 2525. Three hundred years ago, Humanity, united into a single nation, found an incredibly increase in technology. Cloning was finally doable, Genetic Engineering was done to the point of Humans being able to live to the age of one hundred and sixty years, all while looking like a twenty year old. Teleportation was feasable, Tractor Beams and Rail Rifles were long since outdated technology. They were finally capable of space travel, and quickly conquered the entire Milky Way, encountering next to no resistance. However, once past the Milky Way, Humanity encountered Alien Life; an entire alien alliance of multitudes of races, ranging from the Nagalisks, snake like people wise in the way of Biology and Bio-warfare, to the Kurilsions, Multilimbed monstrosouties known for their intellegence and strength.
As it has always been with humans, the United Government of Terra quickly thought that these aliens were too different from themselves, and with fear they beleived that they deserved to die. The UGT quickly struck against this council of Aliens (name pending), seeking to destroy all alien life. The Council was slow to anger, and tried to be reasonable, but upon realisation that no peace could be made, it swiftly sprung into action. It launched strike after unstoppable strike against key UGT strategic assets, quickly forcing them back to the Birth Planet, Terra, itself. Bomb after bomb after devastating bomb was dropped unto the virgin planets terrain, until all life ceased to exist and Terra itself quickly became a ball of glass, never to support another living entity. Almost all of our Tech was lost.
All remaining Terrans were given the option; live on as members of the Government of Aliens (Name also pending), or die. Those who joined the Government of Aliens were treated by the Nagalisks to become sterile; They would be the last of their race. One unforseen action took place, however; Some members of the species resisted this Biological assault, and can still breed. The Council Accepted this as a chance for the Humans to redeem themselves; Serve the Army against the Xykon War, and also against the (Name Pending ) assaults. The humans who can still breed are both loved and reviled by their peers; Loved, because they represent the last hope humanity has, reviled, because they are the only men and women who can have children.
Most humans, while not serving in the Army, organize into groups of scroungers, raiding lost UGT outposts and cities, trying to scavenge what was once theirs, what will be theirs again. It is dangerous, as they constantly run into Xykon patrols, along with breeding grounds of the (Alien Race). But there is hope, hope of one day returning to their glory days. Hope of being a force to be reckoned with on the council of races. Hope of doing the one thing they know they can never do.
Return Home to Terra.
All of the races are broken down into three "classes"; Light, Medium, and Heavy.
Terrans will be designed around a Templar/Crusader type of armor style, with the trademark Bucket Helmet, along with smooth armor plating. They have decent Damage Resistances, and decent armor, but not the best. Their focus is Focus Fire and tactics involving setting up Firing Lanes.
Light: The Myrridon. The Myrridon is set up to be a dehibilitator, using Electro Nets and pistols to distract and pester their enemies, allowing the other Terrans to finish them off (I know Myrridon doesn't have ANYTHING to do with the Crusades, but it's the best name I could think of that had a basis in what they do....)
Medium: Crusader. The Crusader is built to be a typical soldier; Knife for close combat, Laser Rifle for medium Range killing. These will be the Go-To soldiers on the Terrain Force.
Heavy: The Templar: The Templar is a Heavy Weapons Guy. Capable of giving and taking a huge amount of firepower, they won't move when you set them down. At all. They are incredibly slow and must have a lane set up so as to bring their incredibly big weapon to bear, and are horrendous in close combat.
The Xykon: The Xykon were trickier, but as I started to go through my favorite Sci Fi cartoons and TV shows, I found these guys:
They are Machines that are little more than Head, Neck and Torso. They float around while swathed in cloaks, using their bodies as interfaces to larger, more powerful machines. With that sort of concept, I came up with this;
[Key
Red = Inside of Robe
Black = Outside of robe
Grey = Robot
Purple + Blue = Propulsion Jet
Inner Circle = "Eye"]
The Xykon Fanatic is the standard warrior, but the Fanatic is not the actual Xykon. The Actual Xykon is just the Red Eye in the body; it attaches itself to the inside of the armor.
Xykon Tactics are like a bunch of straw held together; All of them together are mighty, individually they are weak. They have to work together to win, and each peice has a job to do that the others HAVE to rely on it doing well (like Eldar).
Light: The Eyebot; Slow, weak, and they don't have a weapon. Why bother with them? Because they reduce the DR of all nearby enemies (even through walls) and the Monument's strongest guns can only be fired at targets designated by the Eyebots. They have one major drawback, however; Eyebots move slowly. Very slowly. They aren't going anywhere by themselves, slowly.
Medium: The Fanatic. The Fanatic is the equivalent of the Crusader, They are your go to Robot, though less so than the Crusaders. One major Difference exists between the Crusader and the Fanatic, however; Fanatics can pick up and move Eyebots to better locations, far, far faster than the Eyebots could move themselves.
Heavy: The Monument. The Monument is easily the most devastating unit in the game. Capable of destroying entire enemy entrenchments, it has but one major weakness. It relies on Eyebots to fire it's Seeker Destroyer Missles, as without them they are blind. They possess the equivalent of a Laser Pistol to defend themselves in times of need. However, it is the Fanatic's job to guard them while they deliver their devastating payload.
And that's all I have. Anything I try to do for the third race always turns out to be far, far, FAR too much like the Zerg for my liking, though they will play the same; Swarmy creatures backed up by monsters.
I will try to keep this one updated regularily, as I am truely trying to change and be able to get one of these things done. Like Dinner. But it's 11:00 and I have to be up a 5:00, so I am going to have to put this on hold for right now. What does everyone think of what I have?
