i need some help understanding the differnce between legions and chapters can you give me a example please

Legions were bigger.
Example The Ultramarines legion numbered 250,000 marines and was the biggest legion and could be divided into whatever divisions the commander (primarch) wanted.
Chapters are smaller
Example Ultramarines chapter numbers 1000 (For the sake of argument) marines usually split into 10 companies.

And also, Legions existed Pre Heresy and were broken down into Chapters right after the Heresy. So there hasn't been a Legion of loyal marines for 10,000 years

I'm kind of a big deal... people know me...
