I entered this into the Open Day painting competition here last weekend, not expecting to win (just as well as the standard was insane!) but the first time I entered a painting comp so good practise for Golden Daemon I guess!

Hope you enjoy.

Cheers

Nice weathering on the cloak, other than that, very very very nice.

Dwarves-about 2000 points, most unpainted. Kill me now.

Man, do I love that model!

Like you imagined, it's not at the level that will win you any higher level painting competitions, but it's not a bad paintjob, by any means. Probably the biggest thing holding it back in that it's relatively flat - more striking shade and highlights, especially done with smooth blends, really make models stand out.

Like I said, though, it's a solid paintjob, if not stellar. I think your combination of realistic expectations and self-analysis and lofty long-term goals will serve you well, though. Keep painting, keep posting, and I'll keep an eye out for you in the GD winners posts a bit down the road.

not only does the mini look great but imo the paintjob does too.the mud effect is nicely accomplished too and is not overdone.

I love the mini, you did a great job. the only thing i think that you might want to try is maybe adding a Delvan mud wash to the red, then highlighting it, to bring out the ridges more and give it a scene of depth. otherwise I think it looks great.

The boots seem a little odd to me. They are the same color as the mud on the coat, so I assume they are muddy. The issue with this is that the mud seems to terminate exactly at the top of the boots. I suggest the mud should either encroach onto his pants, or better, fade away before reaching the top of the boots. right now it's a little confusing if they are muddy, or simply the same color as the mud. As a guidline I'd say the mud shouldn't go up his boots much farther than it does on his coat.

Just my .02. As always take criticism or don't

I saw that model at the Open Day, I entered something myself, it was tough standards there wasn't it? But well done though, nice paintjob.

It was very tough yes, from the looks of things I need to try and improve my conversion skills, as there were some incredible models on show.
Thanks for the compliment, what did you enter?
