Hi Guys

I'm always on the look out for good games and excuses to paint nice miniatures

On my travels I've discovered a company call Urban Mammoth! Now I know these guys are not new on the scene....but has anyone played or still plays there games Urban War and Metropolis?

How does this game compare to say WH40K? and how well established is their games in gaming circles?

Thanks for your help guys.

Man down, Man down....

I have not played these but I do know a little about their history.

From what I recall, they were the guys behind the game VOID and the company I-Kore.
Something bad on the business side happened, and the company shut down.
They lost control of the appearance of the models, my guess would be lost the masters.

Urban Mammoth, the company was created.
THen came Urban War.
The basic rule structure was kept, but none of the old models were.
New models and rules for the factions were created, warband sized skirmish.
Most of the previous fluff was saved, but the current setting had all factions appearing on one planet.

After they got the skirmish level boxes out, and started filling out the range, they released Metropolis, which I believe was more unit based.
In all forms, the rules were available as free PDFs or as books you could order.

Bam, said the lady!

Played some UW in the day. It's an alternating action mechanism based on orders. What makes the system interesting, IMO, is the way they treat troops of different experience: green troops can run and shoot, experienced troops do the same, but better. You'd have to read the ruleset to even get a descent inkling. There's CLAU actions, which actually is in between UW and Metropolis. Metropolis itself is a pretty straight forward alternating actions engine. A nice engine, but not as tasty as the UW mechanics.
