Hi there - I'm fairly new to the hobby; I've been painting stuff for about 6 months. The guy I game with is based in Bristol, so I don't get to do it that often. The GW stores up here aren't really my thing as I'm 30 and I find the overfriendly staff a bit much. There's a local FLGS, NW Gaming Centre, which I've popped into to buy stuff from. I noticed that there are always tournaments being run but to be honest I could do with being demo'd these games a couple of times, or playing with someone who doesn't mind if I mess up the rules a bit.

I've got:
- A painted 2,500 point Chaos Marine army. This is what I've been playing in Bristol
- 3 of the Malifaux boxes, rules, cards, etc. Only really played this for 2 hours but think I could stick with it.
- Planning to buy some Warmachine stuff on Friday as I really like the figs.

My friend and I in Bristol were both looking at putting together a second army, and realised that even a few troops and transports, say 3 of each, is a £100 outlay. Meanwhile Warmachine the Starters are £30 and you can start using them immediately, then just get 1 solo here or there, or a unit.

So - if anyone wants to say hi, or just to advise how to get started, that would be great! I've got transport. Any advice appreciated!

Cheers,

Andrew

Thats quite a lot of stuff for six months worth of collecting! The warmachine stuff is really cool, i started with a cryx boxset and expanded from there, but I'd advise getting the appropriate army book before you go and buy random units and solos as from my limited experiance you need some really nice/nasty combinations to make an effective force. I'd check out battle college, it's a god send for new Warmcahine and Hordes players!

By "NW Gaming Centre", are you referring to Marauder Games? I was under the impression that they had open gaming nights in the centre as well as tournaments, so getting a demo shouldn't be too much of a push if you just ask.

Failing that, there's a well-established local gaming club in Macclesfield (http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/MaccWargames/) which isn't that far away from Stockport.

Hi Andrew, I moved from Manchester almost 2 years ago. Im from Stretford, born and bred in Trafford just 3 streets away from United's ground, and as a massive football fan very proud if it. However, I moved to Gloucester for the birth of my son and here I remain lost in the world of rugby union. From time to time I pop back up usually first weekend of every month or so. Interestingly where I live now I am not too far away from Bristol. Which has provoked my response as Im always proactively browsing forums looking for those in a similar positon of experience. I like 40K from other tabletop games because I like the fluff that accompanies the game. Funnily enough though even hobbies aren't recession proof and that could change.

Ive got a small contingent of Eldar being able to field an army of 750 points. I got around 500 points of Dark Eldar. But I am not over investing at this point as I have no need to which is a consequence of not having a gaming companion.

So I just thought I would say hello,.....so "hello". Is it stocky that you come from? Its also interesting how your gaming buddy is in Bristol, how did that come about? What 2nd Army were you thinking of collecting?

My name is Graham. This is how my search of Dakka has gone http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/344824.page, as you can see not to well but I will persevere and use this time to paint up all i got as best i can, which aint too good. Im sure you will have better luck though being from such a populated area.

Hi I go to a club in Ainsdale Merseyside - a bit far but maybe worth a visit.

We play a lot of 40k and have peeps just getting into Malifaux and new Warmachine players as well. If you are interested or maybe want to arrange games where we come to you check out our forum:

Be nice to hear from you either way.
