18 lances (14 at 60cm). 8 Launch bays. Fair amount of batteries as well. I would likely squadron them as grouped above.

I would say you have a pretty solid build there...I am definitely a fan of the Desolater BB!

Do you know what the Ork player will be running? You seem pretty well set up to take on a Hulk with all those long range lances, not sure about an escort swarm though.

Against a hulk I have all those batteries on the sides of my 3 Murders and Hades.

The Ork player uses Gorbag BB a handful of Terrors and brings a lot of Ravagers. Very orndance heavy. He AAFs, sweeps CAP with FBs, bombs with remaining FBs and then shotguns his torpedos.

I have another fleet list I use against him, but this one may allow me to completely avoid his shotgun. What do you think?

I think it might be possible, although if he rolls really well for torp salvo strengths, it is going to be tough any way you cut it! I guess one good thing is that his tactics are weakened a bit by the new FAQ.

No escorts, I am weird and always include escorts (9 in 1500pts of Chaos!).

Otherwise good fleet.

Carnages would be better support to Desolator/devestations then Murders though.

Have you tried traversing against multiple LO Nova Cannons? I know you and Sig like Carnages, but what are they going to do against a list like that? Against 6+ armor?

3 Murders and 1 Hades is 10 forward lances at 60cm. Add the Desolator traversing and that's 14 with no reason not to lock on. Force the Nova Cannons to brace or die. Even if they survive they might be crippled and unable to fire the NC.
Then at 45cm we add 4 more lances from the Devestations.

I'm buying some escorts soon, but this is a list I can field with the models I have. Of course, I don't know how escorts would help me in this situation either.

Lock-on has no affect on nova cannons (unless you mean something else by LO). Additionally, weapons batter fire can be effective against 6+ armor if you bring enough firepower to bear (which the Chaos can do!).

Well, even braced, the Nova Cannon can't be fired, which makes this a good suppression tactic.

Actually, against a NC-heavy fleet, escorts can be quite dangerous. They have the speed they need to close within the NC's minimum range rapidly, and as long as they are spaced decently, they make rather poor NC targets. This is because you can only destroy one with each NC shot, and the loss of a single escort will not severely hinder the overall firepower of your fleet. As an IN commander, I'd much rather target a battleship or cruiser with my NC than an escort.

We are using a fan-made ruleset developed by Plaxor at the SG forums. I hate NCs able to LO as I think the accuracy hike makes them rediculously effective, but there are a lot of improvements I do like.

I played this list vs an IN buddy of mine this last weekend. I like how it played. The overall strategy, I think, was sound, but I executed it poorly. I've always been a bit overly aggressive and attacked full on when I should have been more cautious.

One mistake was I should have taken lance variant Murders, which would have made it easier for me to fight my way through a tight spot.
Another mistake was I decided to try and bait my opponent with my devestations. It worked, but I stuck around too long and they were destroyed right away leaving ordnance superiority to my opponent. In the future I will likely keep them behind my Murder/Hades squadron to provide cap, finis off cripples and ward off escorts.

Overall it was still a victory for me, albeit a closer one than I would have liked.

Ah, you are right, they are supposed to be 60 cm. Maybe it is part of Plaxor's fan-made rules?

Phthsis, if you could post a link to these rules it would make it much easier to figure out exactly what the heck is going on . My assumption at the start of this thread was that you were just using the rules from the book and the official FAQ.

Anyway. From one perspective I think Plaxor's initiative is good, on the other hand I am really wary about it.

Why? Because it could create Epic (the game) problems.

Nah, youre one of the obviously sane ones. But I bet I could give you 1 guess as to who I am referring to and you'd nail it on the head.

So far I'd say Plaxor has done a fine job. But it does appear that the IN is suffering from a bit of bloat. Its probably because of that learning curve people are convinced its weak, but one you realize the ship itself is the weapon, IN is one of the best fleets. Some of it is also the Aint It Cool syndrome.
Im just glad Chaos is getting a little more love now to even things up.
