Just before Adepticon I wanted to test my 1850 Deamon all-comers list against the new Grey Knights.

Mission was
1. Table Quarters
2. Get an HQ model within 3" of the center of the board
3. Non troop KP
Victory Point tie breaker

I dont even have pics for my usual battle reports so it was fun to actually show a game. Hope folks enjoy

Great video battle report. I liked the visual run down that you did with the lists before the game started. The camera work was pretty good, the demons were well painted and the table looked nice. My only small criticism would be to do summaries at the top and bottom of each turn although your description combined with the kill counters made it pretty obvious what was going on each turn.

I don't know if it was the strength of the GK codex that really won the game for your opponent as much as it was poor deep striking. There was no reason to open yourself up to that much shooting, if you would have deployed in the corner opposite your opponent it would have forced him to move out of his deployment zone and by having him come to you it would have given you the upper hand. Your demon list is pretty mobile but fragile, theres no reason to drop on your opponent's doorstep.

Glad you enjoyed the video.

As far as my strategy. His whole army was in that Stormraven so no matter where I went, he could go. I was trying to shoot it down and once succesful I was using units to sort of "scare" him into staying in his quarter since table quarters was one of the objectives. I was planning on using the herald of Tzeentch, to dash to the center, but a bad batch of saves gunned him down. I was trying to play the mission over wiping him out, but it didnt pan out. As it was, a major problem was my 2nd grinder immobilized itself on landing and taht would have put pressure on the side of his army, as well as eaten the Raven once it was immobile. It was more for learning than worrying about winning though, and I learned the G Knights are TOUGH for deamons. Not as tough as Dark Eldar, but tough nonetheless.

Did he warp quake? Or even make an attempt to limit your deployment?

Yeah he warpquaked as well. His two squads with that ability were on either side of his units on foot. It is really tough since if you scatter within 12" you auto mishap. 2 squads with this power covers a lot of ground. And if your unit with an icon is in that bubble, the icon is pretty much useless. I dont know how deamons are going to handle those paladin squads as well. Multi wound, allocation, 2+ armour is tough, so you think .....ahh power weapons are the answer, but in a stormraven, they will get the charge off and make you Initiative 1 taking most of the Crushers down. Deamons also have no psychic defense which can be a problem with Knights

Yeah, I was playing with a graphics program earlier... If you have two 10-man GK squads, you can essentially block off a whole half of the table if you place the squads right and space the men out correctly. If you add just one shunting squad, you can force the daemons to go in one corner with significant risk of scattering even then.

I don't think I've seen one codex that so completely invalidated another before. Most of the battle reports I've seen so far have the GK player holding back, not warpquaking the hell out of the table.

Well done video battle report.

This confirmed my suspicion that daemons don't really have an answer to Draigo and the Super Friends.

If you really want to screw with grey knights get flesh hounds, they may not be that great but a 20 man unit with all 2++ saves in close combat is hard to do anything to.
