Hey guys, I apologize about the lack of pictures, so I tried to detail the most exciting details about this nailbiter of a game I had with a buddy of mine. Tell me what you all think =D

I used one platoon with autocannons and grenade launcher infantry squads, missile launcher and mortar HWT, 1 Valk with a CCS of plasma, 1 vet squad with meltas and demolitions in a chimera, 1 Manticore, 2 scout sentinels with Hvy Flamers, 8 storm troopers, and 1 Leman Russ MBT with bolter sponsons and a screen of veterans with a heavy flamer and shotguns.

My buddy fielded a Trygon, a Hive Tyrant, 2 Zoanthropes, a horde of Termagaunts, a horde of Hormagaunts, and 3 hordes of Genestealers.

Battle Report of Rescue Operation: Guardian
The jungle planet of Andevian II was an Imperial outpost that due to its remoteness was ideal for imperial scientists and biologists to study a new form of Tyranid that had been captured from the surface of a “Nid”-infested planet. This creature displayed an amazing connection to the Warp, intriguing the Astropathica bishops on Holy Terra. Studies underwent immediately to examine how it managed such power, and discover a way to harness it for the Astronomicon beacon. The researchers, however, underestimated the reach and scope of the young creature’s power and before half a year of research was conducted, the tiny outpost was besieged by the Hive Fleet Basilisk, driven by the distress calls of the experiment. An Imperial distress call was immediately made as the outpost militia fell to the onslaught hordes. Upon receiving news of the invasion, the Imperial Guard contingent Fox was dispatched in the rescue operation codenamed Guardian. Upon landing on the planet, the unit found the research facility in ruins, with hundreds dead. However, it was through sheer luck that one surviving scientist was found amongst the bodies, as he hid from the consuming swarms. Securing the sole man who had the knowledge and vital research information of the experiment, the Fox unit called for an immediate extraction, which was to arrive within the hour. Fate had a different plan, for before long, a remaining colony of Tyranids emerged from their burrows to trap and consume the foolish, but brave men who volunteered. Outnumbered, but determined, the Fox unit met the Tyranids in heated conflict. (GAMETYPE/DEPLOYMENT: Seize Ground, Pitched Battle)
Objectives: -Imperial Scientist, Tyranid Experiment Life-form.

Turn 1: IG-From the Imperial side of the field, a valkyrie containing Commander Jack Churchill and his command squad thumped across the battlefield to deliver the men at the massive Trygon that loomed ahead. A withering hail of plasma dealt 5 wounds to the Monstrous Creature but failed to defeat the behemoth. Meanwhile, the valkyrie proceeded to deliver its deadly payload of its rocket pods and heavy bolter gunners into a pack of Hormagaunts, thinning the horde. Far behind the frontlines, the Fox unit Manticore pounded a Storm Eagle missile into the same group, killing more as well as wounding a mysterious Zoanthrope pair, slaying one of them. The company Leman Russ fired its massive cannon towards the unit, but its shell detonated early, catching only the fringe of the group. Sporadic frag missiles and mortars struck a brood of termagaunts on the opposite end of the field, joined by a Tervigon, protecting the experiment.
Nids- The Trygon, in a blind rage, beared down upon the Commanders squad and in one horrific movement, eviscerated the squad, prompting the valkyrie to evacuate as the Hormagaunts rushed to assail the helo and a searing lance of energy screamed past the cockpit. The pilots’ last visage of Commander Jack Churchill was of him heroically rushing forward with his great sword and being swallowed whole by the beast.
Turn 2: IG- To cover the retreat of the Valkyrie, the Manticore fired a devastating payload of missiles that wounded a Hive Tyrant and thinned the Hormagaunts before dropping the Trygon with well-placed Heavy Bolter fire. From behind the lines of the horde, Guardsman Marbo sprang from cover and attempted to bring down the remaining wounded Zoanthrope, which no doubt remained a significant threat to the Imperial Armor. A request for air and ground support was sent, and to the dismay of the Platoon commander, went unanswered.
Nids- From both flanks of the battlefield, Fox’s worst nightmares came true as two groups of Genestealers moved in a pincer formation. In a terrifying scene, the squad of men charged with escorting the Leman Russ was caught completely unaware as the monsters mutilated each and every soldier. In the same instant, the Hormagaunts charged towards the positions of the Manticore and a Chimera carrying a demolition specialist unit of guardsmen. On the other side, Genestealers poured into the ruined research compound and raced towards the platoon of soldiers. Things were beginning to look very grim for this battle-hardened platoon.
Turn 3: IG- On the right flank of the battlefield, the combined firepower of the tank, chimera, and valkyrie gunship managed to contain the Genestealer breach and finally break the last of the hormagaunts. In the last possible moment, the entire platoon was saved by the arrival of the Sentinel Squadron as it appeared behind the genestealers, surrounding them. With an unforgiving fountain of ignited promethium, the west flank was secured. Using his mastered art of CQC, Marbo defeated the Zoanthrope which threatened the vehicular power of the battalion. However much to his chagrin, the remaining Hive Tyrant charged towards him and slashed with brutal bone swords. Left for dead, Marbo managed to treat his wounds and fall back to command as a casualty. During this time, the Tervigon and Termagaunt brood continued to hatch new units, creating a massive horde that encompassed that corner of the field. The combined firepower of lasguns, autocannons, and missiles neutralized a “squad” of advancing creatures.
Nids- In an inconceivable turn of events, one last horde of Genestealers erupted on the right side of the battlefield, which immediately swept over the tank, rending the hull apart and striking vital fuel lines. The Leman Russ was nothing more than a roiling ball of flame and metal.
Turn 4: IG- The chimera laden with troopers managed to control the latest Genestealer incursion while the sentinels, valkyrie, and manticore moved to re-capture the creature responsible for so much death. Overhead, the rumble of an Imperial drop ship roared as at last, a squad of elite Storm Troopers deep striked at the heart of the Termagaunt infestation. Their guns thinned the numbers, as they stood poised at the mouth of oblivion.
Nids: Indeed, the remaining forces of Termagaunts proved too much for the elite Spec-Ops team, which fell before it could be reinforced by the approaching Imperial armor.
Turn 5: IG- The combined forces of the vehicle squadrons destroyed the last of the Termagaunts as they raced for the now exposed Experiment but before they could seize it, the Tervigon used its body to conceal it and proceeded to stalk away from the battlefield, launching explosive cluster spines to cover its escape.
Before chase could be given, the rescue dropship arrived, prompting the weary unit to fall back for the safely of the ship as its massive size warded away the Hive Tyrant, which undoubtedly would quickly return with a force twice as large as the one that had been repelled. In the end, Operation: Guardian was a success, as the researcher was saved as well as valuable information about the Tyranid Psyker powers. However, the experiment managed to slip away and was never seen again on the planet. Planetary scanners found no trace of its existence…..

So you told the SD boy to stay classy. I'm sure he's NEVER heard that one....

Thanks man! To me the game was already awesome for having set up such a scenario on the spot. This was my first time playing Tyranids so when the Genestealers came in, i was genuinely terrified =p

Awesome Batrep! I really enjoyed the writing style, story and the fact that the armies don't seem to have been extremely competitive, makes for a different experience then what one usually sees.
Keep'em coming

haha thanks man, this was my first one that I've written and I will definitely try to post pictures to help give some visualization to the battlefield. I also neglected to mention that the Guard was Catachan and the Valkyrie was converted into a Helicopter -__- lol
