Hello all!

This is to announce a 40k tournament on Saturday, June 4th at Borderlands on Laurens Road in Greenville, SC. Registration will start at 10am with dice rolling at 1030. $10.00 entry with 100% entry going to prize support. Best overall, best general, best painted, and best sportsman will all be awarded.

The tournament format will be similar to the Gladiator at Adepticon, but with more "normal missions." Each player will construct a 1500 point "parent list." The list must be legal on its own (one force org, 1 HQ, 2 Troop, etc). In addition, you may bring one or two 500 point "sidebar" lists. Max of two sidebars. Either of these lists must be able to be legally combined with the main list into one force organization chart. The sidebar lists must be composed of whole, actual units and not upgrades to the main list (you may not add melta bombs to your HQ, add a dedicated transport, etc in a sidebar).

In each game, you will share your 1500 point list with your opponent, secretly choose your sidebar, and then reveal the chosen sidebars to each other at the same time. You will then play a normal 2000 point game.

The hope is to add another level of tactics during list construction.

If you cannot/do not want to come up with a sidebar, then a normal 2000 point list will also be perfectly legal. Just separate it into a 1500 point parent and one 500 point sidebar. Some of the missions reference the sidebar, so this distinction needs to be made up front.

Borderlands has 10+ tables, tons of terrain, snacks, and is close to multiple places to eat.

Call Borderlands to pre-register. 864-235-3488 and check out their website http://www.borderlands.us

Below you will find attached word documents of general info, the missions, and how sports/painting will be judged. Hard copies of this are also available at the store. PM me with any questions.

I look forward to it! Now I just need to come up with something new for the tournament, and not my same old list.

I'll be there. Sidebar concept looks fun!

Is two the maximum number of sidebar lists? (Just making sure.)

Yes. Only two for this one. If it goes over well, that may change at other tournaments.

These rules and missions look solid. This should be a great event. I just need to figure out what I am going to play.

Bring your Daemons.

I really should dust off my orks but theres no way they will get painted in time.

Hey Twitch I should be there as well... If Josh and I ride together we don't have to play each other in the first round right?

Just some answers to some questions I have gotten....

1) If I travel with a friend, will I have to play them in the first round?

We do our best to make sure this doesnt happen in the first round. Afterwards, players are paired up by total battle points, so all bets are off.

2) How many copies of my army list do I need?

Bring enough so that you can turn one in at the start of the tournament, and one to share with your opponent at each game

3) I just have 2000 points, can I play?

Of course! Just separate your points into a 1500 point parent list, and a 500 point sidebar. You will need a "sidebar" to play in several of the missions

4) Can you explain how the victory points objectives work? (Whoever has the most victory points close to the center, etc)

At the end of the game, calculate the total number of victory points in the area stated by the objective (wholly within, means the ENTIRE unit must be in). Use the rules in the basic rulebook to determine how many victory points each unit is worth (units under half strength are worth half, etc). Compare each players total. If the difference is within the given "draw" range, then that objective is drawn, otherwise, the player with the most points wins that objective.

5) Lastly, I would highly recommend calling Borderlands to preregister for the tournament. All we need is your name, but it will save your spot. Otherwise, it will be on a "first come, first served" basis, and space, although we have tons of tables, is limited. 864-235-3488.

@Twitch

How will VPs be calculated for vehicle squadrons? I've seen it played on a per vehicle basis and as a whole squadron-- both have their pros and cons.

@Everybody

If you can make it, Borderlands has great tables and the tourneys I've been to there are generally well organized and run. I highly recommend going if you're within a reasonable distance.

With regard to vehicle squadrons, score each vehicle independently for purposes of Victory Points (so, for example, 1 Vendetta killed in a squadron of 3 would be worth 130 victory points, even though the entire unit still resided above 50%). Hope that helps.

Only three more weeks does anyone have an idea what the turnout is looking like (that and just taking this thread back to the top, we were about to fall to the second page)

I know there are around 10 already pre-registered at Borderlands and I know of approximately 10 more that plan on coming. Hopefully the total of 20 will hold. That will make for a good tournament. Tell everyone!

Also, I have had a question or two about the GK book and how I will rule different things...the only ruling that I will make now is that Coteaz limits henchmen to 6 squads that take up Troop spots on the Force Org chart (no one has specifically asked this, but I want to make it clear b/c it greatly affects army construction). Please build your army list accordingly. Otherwise, I will rule on questions as needed, while having a fairly liberal interpretation of the book unless a FAQ comes out before then.

I just left borderlands, the sign up sheet in the store is up to 23 people. I will be at the store tomorrow to check out the fine cast and get a practice game in for next week if anyone is interested.

Hey Dakka!

The tournament is this weekend! Remember the 1500 + 500 point sidebars format. Even if you are bringing just one sidebar, lists need to be broken down 1500+500 because some missions reference sidebar units.

When I went by the store, we were at 24 total thus far. We have a "soft cap" at 32 players but can get more tables if needed. Please pre-register up until this Thursday/Friday so that we can be prepared. If people show up on Saturday that we dont know are coming, we may have difficulty arranging space. 864-235-3488.

$10 entry fee. Be there 945-1000 am with the goal to be rolling dice at 1030. Remember to bring a copy of your parent army list and both sidebars to turn in when you register. Missions/scoring are posted earlier in this thread.

Thanks,

Twitch

Tournament was great. Had three awesome games with some great people. Met some new guys and old friends as well. Juice (Steve) owed my deathwing and came in with the best general. Brian D. won overall with his blood angels. Overall my deathwing were 2-1 for the day. They had 30 people over which was great! Prize support was great, the missions were challenging and fun to play. The boards had plenty of terrain for 40k. Brandon went 1-2 for the day with his new grey knight list. Interesting note. Of all the armies there were only 2 guard and about 4 grey knights. As I remember the breakdown:
1 BA
1 DE
4 GK
4 Orks
3 Deathwing ( I guess Im not the only one now)
3 BT (that was a surprise)
4 Eldar
2 IG
4 S Marines
1 csm
1 doc
oops sorry Mike) 2 sw
(no bugs, necrons or tau)

Congrats to Twitch and Boarderlands for hosting an awesome event. When is the next one?

I really enjoyed this event. It was well run, and the rounds were long enough that random game length actually mattered. I thought that the side board format was a great part of the tournament and added an extra level of strategy to the game.

With 30 people, this local event was really something special and drew in a lot of different players from the area.

I played Chaos Daemons and went 2-1 for the day, losing to Brian D, the overall winner, in the final round. All of my games were tons of fun, and all of my opponents were really nice. I look forward to the next one!

Ya i must say, I had a blast after not really wanting to play 40k again. Thanks to Twitch for letting me be the Ringer, and to Horton for lending me an army.

To my knowledge the next tournament is sometime in either October or November.

Now if only my Eldar would magically paint themselves...

Any chance we could see some armylists of the top players and the overall metagame composition?

I am curious to see how things are shifting in and around my area. Sadly, I couldn't make it. Money was just too tight.

Next time!
