I've come back to LoTr after a long while, and was thinking about doing a elven army. Can anyone point me in the right direction for collecting and playing with them?

What kind of elven army are you contemplating? There are the first age elves, wood elves, and galadhrim. Two boxes of wood elves or galadhrim and a hero/banner blister works well. If you want a challenge you could make an all mounted galadhrim army. Mounted forces need heroes so that you get the charge.

I like the look of the wood elves and galadhrim.

great to hear your back into LotR. elves are a great army, although I've never really played them much. Galadhrim elves look quite nice, but look out for the low defense of those wood elves. You'll have to get your defense from somewhere. Check out the One-Ring forums, they'll help you for they are all about LotR SBG/WOTR and terrain etc...

Offence is the best defence for wood elves. If they win fights their low armour is inconsequential. Their best shot at winning fights comes from having a decent number of elves. Thus, don't spend lots of points on upgrades like cloaks and throwing daggers. Just take lots of elves with spears and bows. Also don't spend lots of points on special characters. Just take a hero and a banner.

Much of the same can be said for galadhrim.

I find it useful to team up wood elves with dwarves. I wrote a list of aragorn, legolas, gimli, some elves and some dwarves
