well I was digging about today for some news on Mechwarrior(3015, 5 or The Reboot, as it has gathered a few names now) and found a link to what I think is Bryan Ekman's blog, and in one of his newest tid bits he included the following:
Finally a moment to breath after a two months of travels. All I can say is - I AM PUMPED! We just launched Rabbit Hole, a new development studio focused on making cool new games for the Kinect, Wii and Move. Their mantra - Get Moving, Get Social.
Duke is looking and playing great, we're excited to get this thing out the door!
Mech = (smiley face)

this brought me a small glimmer of hope, and I hope it at least gives the other Mechwarrior fans here on Dakka at least a more positive feeling after the silence we've endured from the company.

Meh. I thought the characters from the last one were kinda douchey and consistently overacting...
If they don't try to continue the last storyline and instead give us a MW2 Mercenaries type experience, I'd be happier.

Do you mean the last Mech Warrior game or Mech Assault?
Either way, lets face it. Who played either for story line?

I read the books for the storyline. They are awesome. Hell, the older games had great stories.

I just want my Madcat back. I hope they don't do MechAssault and bring back the hard points and customization. I need a new MW game. As much as I love Mercenaries, Mektech is getting old

I hate the new mercenaries... the older version of the mercenaries concept was so much better that playing the new one was an incredible letdown.

well it is highly unlike that they will continue the storyline, as the new game is set for 3015, while Mechassault was set in the Jihad 3067-3081 and MW4 Mercs was late 3066-3067 leaving MW4 Vengeance to have run its course some time in 3062-3067. so luckily it will be something completely new, well as new as it can be.
Who plays any battletech franchise for storyline? The settings got a bad one.
well I do, I may not like all the factions, but I do like the universe, and have read my far shares of the books, I am dying to get a campaigning going locally but alas it CBT is a hard game to get into.

well freebirth barbarian, the proper name for that Omnimech is the Timber Wolf , IMHO one of the best mechs ever created, the Prime Variant is still a viable mech on the table in a 3060+ time setting. so from its first encounter with the IS 3049, to the more modern 3060+ time setting, it is still a mech to be respected on the battle field.
though sadly you won't be seeing it in this game(unless they decide to drop a massive bombshell of a change to the game). as for the hard points, I could see this go either way, as with the setting most mechs were handed down for generations, modifications to such priceless heir looms are rare. what I could see being done is going back and looking at the CBT mechs and giving the players different Variants to pick from. IE the Warhammer WHM-6R and the Warhammer WHM-6D are the same chassis but are armed and armored differently.
personally I wanting to see some of the more iconic mechs of the time, the Atlas, Battlemaster, Zeus, Shadow Hawk, Centurion, Crab, Dragon, Commando etc, I am very curious to see what the final verdict on included mechs will be.

That's what I hated the most about Mech Assault (I think that's what most long run Mech Warrior fans hated about mech assault). No customization. Course it was still a fun way to kill time. Very arcady.

well it was annoying(more so with the Omni mechs than the inner sphere ones), but what got me going was how few weapons the mechs actually had. a Pair of lasers and two SRM2s for a Mad Dog(Vulture), knowing such a mech normally had two LRM20s, 2 Large Pulse Lasers, and 2 Medium Pulse Lasers.
but some customization would be nice, as long as they keep the hard points some what like MW4, with energy points, ballistic points and missile points.

Now that I think of it, what Mech Assault did really well was mech's exploding. Those were some well down light shows. I wouldn't mind them keeping the way they monitored overheating either. It was a lit easier to track than in the really busy HUD from Mercenaries.
