I have 2 fleet I have been thinking about and would like all the input I can get on do-able or not and any suggestions.

1 Mars w/Targeting Matrix and Admiral - 335
1 Lunar w/Nova Cannon - 200

2 Tyrants w/45 range - 390

2 Tyrants w/45 range - 390
1 Gothic - 180

Total - 1500

Emperor w/Assault Boats - 370
Vengence w/Admiral - 280

2 Trrants w/45 range - 390
2 Lunars w/Nova Cannons - 400

2 Cobras - 60
These to run around the Tyrants and Lunars to go bases to base for more turrets or
pick off a crippled ship and if someone wants to spend time shooting at them hes not
shooting at the cruisers.

All will be Squadron as grouped.

All thoughts are welcome. Thanks

Interesting lists....

For your first, I have actually run something similar to that. At 1,500, I like to have at least 8 launch bays in my IN lists. So, you could really use another carrier; either the Exorcist or the Dictator would fit the bill. I would recommend the Exorcist, since it can also stand in for a BB to a certain extent with its extra shield, turret, and HPs. I also like to take at least one good-sized escort squadron (4-6 ships) to provide some mobile firepower. The range-enhanced Tyrants make it not strictly necessary, though.

As for your second list, I would say that even as a diversion, the two cobras will be fairly useless. A 2-ship squadron is pretty easy to kill, and can also be ignored since it doesn't represent a huge amount of firepower. Thus, I think you would be better off either taking a larger squadron or not taking them at all. You could drop one cruiser, or alternatively drop some of the range/NC upgrades.

Out of curiosity, is there a reason you are avoiding the Dominator? You seem determined to have at least 2 NC in your fleet, and that ship is the most cost-effective way to get one. Granted, it is not going to have the range of an upgraded Tyrant.

One other factor to consider (if you haven't already) is that Fleet 1 will not have all the bits needed to make the ships you have listed here out of the box. That is because each pair of cruisers only comes with enough weapons bits to make one Tyrant/Dominator/Overlord. The second fleet doesn't have that problem because of the extra weapons batteries you will have left over from making the Emperor.

Sorry I just got back, was out of town.

I and a bunch of friends use to play BFG every weekend when the game had first come out and I used 3 Dominator's but was never very good at guessing ranges so it had never really mattered, until the "Day of Doom".
The one Chaos player brought to a battle the brand new "Planet Killer".... I had put the 3 Dominator's together to have a better chance since I never guessed the ranges right.
My first turn I guessed 100cm and was right on rolling 3 scatter dice hits then 3 6s then 7 5s and 6s then a 12 and a 8 on the Critical Hits the rest misses with a 5 for the Bulkhead Collapse and the 1 for Thruster Damage left him with "1" hit point and moving at 10...Total disbelief... we still did just win as there was 4 of us playing using my ping-pong table.

We spent the rest of the afternoon talking about the Nova Cannon and I have never used more the 2 since then.

I had went to Adapticon in 2010 and seen to my surprise about 6 or 8 guys playing BFG, my interest was again spurred and my grandson had just found my ships I had put up.
I went this year again and seen about 14 or 16 guys playing and want to get a fleet ready to try and play next year hence the fleet lists.

I have a ton of stuff and the one Eldar player that had a Imp fleet just gave me all his stuff for my grandson to play with so I don't have any problem with parts or ships so what ever 2 fleets I come up with i can make. I want to make up 2 fleet lists with ships I like and then decide after playing which one I would like to take to Adapticon next year.

Before I revamp the lists some questions and thoughts would be great.

I have read all the new rules put out by GW and found and printed out the BFG 2010 FAQ and Errata and was wondering if this is official or not.

I don't know if you was one of the guys playing this year or last but I don't remember anyone using Nova Cannons so was kind of wondering if they are now kind of left out of fleet rosters.
It really doesn't matter to me with the exception of the Mars class and is the reason for the Tyrants as I love the look of that ship and you cant change out NCs on the Dominator for torpedoes.

If the BFG 2010 is official the Exorcist can get Shark assault boats now.

I have plenty of escorts so that is not a problem, I guess its a matter of the NC or not as it does allow a bit better set of ships and thoughts to decide on a list.

Any more thoughts on this from you or others would be of great help.

Thanks

Hi,
it is good the Nova Cannon is no longer a guess range weapon. haha

Everything on GW site is official.

The 2010 FAQ (+drafts) are made by the team which also made the revisions in BFG1.5, Ships of Mars rules. So they hold authority but GW has yet to upload the new items to the site.
So we hope they will do.

Does anyone know if any Nova Cannons was used this year at Adapticon.

Even though the rules allows for them, the guys that played opinion's would weigh more for me.

Well, unless there has been a major sea change, AFAIK the general consensus on NC is that 1-2 of them are OK at 1,500 pts. More than that starts to get into "cheese" territory.

No. I will fight a 5 NC fleet with a lot of fun.

And I'm sure you would, Horizon. Just as I am also sure that you are a lot more open-minded on such things than many BFG players I have encountered .

Lots more Forum readings.

I would agree with Horizon if I was playing much harder players that was at your same level of play.

I am more in line with Ruckdog in that most regular groups think the NC is over powered. Even worse is the PUG groups you finally get to play at your FLG and then get the Lucky shots that waste their newly painted ships. You just lose them as players.

Anyway 3 lists and yea I am kind of a Mars guy..

Emperor w/assault boats - 370

Vengence - 230
Gothic w/ Admiral- 230

Dominator - 190
Dominator - 190
Gothic - 180

3x Swords - 105

Total 1495 pt's

Mars w/Matrix and Admiral - 335

Vengence - 230
Tyrant - 195

Dominator - 190
Dominator - 190
Gothic - 180

5x Swords - 170

Total 1490 pt's

Mars w/Matrix w/Admiral - 320
Exorcist w/Shark Boats - 230

Dominator - 190
Gothic - 180

Tyrant w/range - 195
Tyrant w/range - 195

5x Swords - 170

Total 1480 pt's
Could do 3 Swords and 3 Cobras to get the points to come out to 1500

Nova Cannon's
Hit die and if scatter: 30 to 45 D6, over 45 to 100 D6+D3 over 100 to 150 2D6+D3
This is only about the small hole in the template.
I would rather see a D3+ number of shields hits.... i.e; Battleship would be a D3+4
A second or more Nova Cannons shot at the same Battleship in the same shooting turn would lose the +'s so D3 hits.
The reason for losing the +'s is (I have been waiting to use this word) "Fratricide"
The reason for the varying +'s for shields is a smaller ship is harder to hit but you would always will get at least 1 point of hull damage.
This way the NC's are not overpowering and having more that 2 is not a big of deal and you are at least taking hit points off their ships before they get to your line.
Just my thoughts.

Any help on the list's would be great. Thanks

I think I like the 3rd list the best, myself. Your choice of one 5 ship escort squadron is good; another way to soak up some points would be to make 1 or 2 of those Swords into Firestorms, to give the squadron a few lance shots (I personally like to run 2 firestorm and 3 swords in a squadron).

The last fleet is the one I like also but....
I fat fingered the calculator and I am at 1495pts so I could only swap out one of the Swords for a Firestorm.
One of the changes I could make is to drop the Targeting Matrix on the Mars and then get the second Firestorm and use the last 10 points to add a 3rd Turret to the Mars per the new BFG FAQ 2010 or drop the A/boats off the Exorcist for those points.

Mars w/Matrix w/Admiral - 320
Exorcist w/Shark Boats - 240 (corrected)

Dominator - 190
Gothic - 180

Tyrant w/range - 195
Tyrant w/range - 195

5x Swords - 175 (corrected)

Total 1495 pt's

Any thoughts.

Honestly, this list looks pretty good to me. With no battleship I think you need to keep all the long range firepower you have. I would also say that you should keep the a-boats; they are great to have when you need to kill some escorts!
