Me and Shaun had a change of venue and popped to Warhammer World for a game instead! Table I had booked was meant to be city as the G.W people called it, I'd say outpost more like but still a nice board.

We agreed bastions would follow normal building rules, barricades would be block vehicles and give 4+ cover save or 2+ save if going to ground behind them and the landing pad 4+ invulnerable if shields are up or you can assault from a vehicle as if it was open topped - if the vehicle was on the pad

Game: Dawn of War + Seize Ground

Deployment

I won the roll off and placed one objective by the landing pad and the other in a nearby crater with a wrecked Rhino. Shaun placed his by the bastion in the top left corner.

I decided to go second and deployed nothing

Not sure what Shaun deployed, he might not have put anything down or just a CCS.

Tactical Notes

My first target is going to be the Vendetta. If I take that down not only do I take out a long ranged unit but also the meltas inside stranding them. I'll target Manticores next to disable the long range fire then meltas hopefully leaving little anti tank. The Leman Russes I can only use meltas on so I'll have to wait and see how Shaun deploys and try and counter them or something.

Turn 1

Shaun rolls his armour on. On the right flank he has a Manticore, two plasma units, melta CCS, melta squad. Around the bastion he has Strakken, the other Manticore and a melta unit. On the left flank he has the two Russes, Vendetta which turbo boosts down the left flank and a melta Vet unit which is sitting on his objective behind a barricade.

No shooting first turn from Shaun as he has nothing to shoot at, lol!

My turn I roll all my units on the left flank as I'm keeping all my armour around the two objectives closest to me and avoiding a good portion of Shauns army. The Vindicators are on the right table edge ready to blast the plasma units which can't do a lot damage to the Vindicators.

First turn shooting Vindicators are out of range but no matter Shaun can't deal with them that much and one is under the landing pad. Razorbacks open fire immobilising a a melta Vet Chimera, weapon destroyed on the CCS tank, Manticore on the right flank passes cover saves and the Vendetta is shot down with a immobilised results - skimmers which have turbo boosted are wrecked if immobilised

* Tactical Notes

Not a bad first turn. I've managed to avoid a good amount of Shauns armour meaning the stuff on the left flank isn't going to do a lot. Only units over there threatening me are the Russes and the Manticore and the Manticore I can draw LOS on easily. Shame the Vindicators are out of range but they're now threatening those Chimeras and Shaun can only move across a ruin to avoid them and TBH they will still get him either way. Doing this means those plasmas stay away from my power armour.

I did suggest to Shaun he should have popped smoke going first giving him a cover save

Turn 2

Shaun moves the melta squad out the Vendetta and into a ruin while the Leman Russes advance. He starts bringing out the Chimeras from behind the barricade, the melta one first single file due to space - one still is on his objective as it is blocked in and cannot move. Left flank he starts bringing his tanks forward.

Shooting my Librarians both do shield power before Shaun shoots. Left flank Manticore gets a single shot but lands on target and immobilises a Razorback carrying meltas. The other Manticore gets lucky and immobilises the exposed Vindicator at the side of the landing pad, though it doesn't matter as Shaun has moved his Chimeras into range of it for me - thanks mate! . Multi lasers blast out from every Chimera possible couple of tanks take some fire but nothing serious on the damage chart.

My turn I move the melta Honour Guard forward towards Shauns objective with a supporting Librarian and flamer squad - Librarian can protect the units with shield while meltas bust the Russes and flamers deal with the infantry. I bail out the melta squad from the immobilised Razorback and run them towards the objective by the landing pad as the other Razorbacks move forward 6" mostly.

Shooting immobilised Vindicator evens the score and wrecks a oncoming plasma Chimera. The other Vindicator takes a pop at the other behind it but scatters off the board. Lascannons and plasma take pot shots at the CCS and just score weapon destroyed while the Manticore on the left flank passes cover saves. Lascannons blast the other Manticore and stun it but even better a lascannon hits the leading Chimera coming out the barricade and immobilises it! I was hoping to destroy it to make some terrain problems for the other but immobilised is even better now stopping Strakkens tank getting out beyond the barricades.

* Tactical Notes

Well that was a interesting second turn. I've got a immobilised Razorback which is annoying but at least it can act like a pillbox and the Marines aren't too far from a objective. I would have preferred the meltas to be out busting tanks but it's not going to happen. I've also got a immobilised Vindicator but at least it is in range to shoot Guard stuff and count my blessings it is not destroyed.

I think I personally had a cracking turn. I managed to wreck a Chimera holding some plasma Veterans which will allow me to either shoot them up or assault them but better yet it is blocking the one behind. Best part of this turn was immobilising that Chimera and blocking Strakken inside the compound, serious lol!

Turn 3

Plasma Chimera behind the wrecked one on the right flank moves back while the CCS bail out their stunned Chimera ready to unleash melta pain. Strakken bails out and his squad moves behind the barricade while the Russes move closer to my Razorbacks.

Shooting my Librarians do shield power, Librarian on the left fails psychic test and takes a wound :( . CCS issues bring it down and fires at a Razorback and pops it leaving the melta squad inside a crater - they pass pinning and take no wounds from the sharpnel. Melta Honour Guard Razorback gets blasted by double Leman Russ shots and is wrecked, they pass pinnining while the supporting Librarians tank eats multi laser fire scoring weapon destroyed losing the lascannon and shaking it. Manticore on the right flank fires getting a single shot (I think this is because it's my Manticore I lend Shaun! lol) but scores weapon destroyed on a Razorback losing a lascannon.

In my turn I move the Vindicator out from underneath the landing pad to get into range of the other plasma Chimera. Melta Honour Guard and Librarians Razorback move forward towards the Russes. A Razorback carrying a melta squad moves into terrain by the wrecked Rhino objective and gets grounded.

Shooting I blast the CCS Chimera and rip it out, it explodes killing one Guardsmen. Vindicator fires at the plasma Chimera on the right flank but it passes cover save. The exposed squad isn't so lucky and get direct hit by a Vindicator shell, they get cover as half covered. Right flank Manticore takes some more lascannon shots but just keeps passing cover saves. I think that's about it.

* Tactical Notes

I don't think Shauns dice are with him or I am just having a good luck because he doesn't seem to be taking many tanks out, the red just keeps rolling forward!

I've managed to pop the CCS out of their tank but they will probably be in melta range and wreck a tank of mine, either way they will be assaulted. The exposed Guardsmen with plasmas I am going to roll up and flamer them with something while blasting that right flank Manticore, damn the cover saves are annoying. Hopefully the melta Honour Guard will be in range of the Leman Russes too.

Turn 4

Shaun moves his CCS out the crater and towards my line of Razorbacks while he moves the plasma Veteran squad on foot forward. I think that's about it.

Shooting I pass psychic tests and both Librarians get shield power. Shaun issues bring it down with the melta CCS which explodes a Razorback carrying a melta unit. Right flank Manticore blasts causing damage to Razorbacks as does the left flank one, most are just shaken though the immobilised one is now left with zero weapons. Russes fire at a Razorback first shot hits the other scatters back onto the squad on foot on there way to the landing pad, two die after failing cover saves and the Razorback is safe. Plasma smashes into the Honour Guard on foot from Strakkens unit but the meltas in the squad remain, they pass morale. Meltas from terrain blast the Librarians Razorback and score crew stunned and weapon destroyed. Plasmas try rapid firing at a Vindicator but do nothing. Other Honour Guard with the other Librarian are blow out their Razorback.

My turn I move a shaken Razorback 12" towards the plasma troops on foot, inside is a flamer unit and Priest but they're too far away. I move the melta unit out of terrain towards the CCS ready to crush some skulls. Melta Honour Guard move up into melta range of the Russes while the Librarian and flamer squad bails out the Razorback and moves towards the squad in terrain. Melta squad on foot moves to claim the objective by the landing pad.

Shooting flamer unit with the Priest pop smoke on their tank so plasma doesn't open it up. Vindicator fires and wrecks the last plasma Chimera, they fail pinning test. Right flank Manticore gets exploded by lascannons. A Leman Russ explodes thanks to melta while the flamer from the Librarian squad blasts the unit inside terrain, the unit passes morale. Melta squad blasts the exposed CCS leaving the Commander on two wounds.

In assault the melta squad charges the solo Commander and decks him, they consolidate into terrain in case plasma or melta fire at them which are nearby. Honour Guard assault the last Leman Russ and wreck it thanks to furious charge

* Tactical Notes

Looks like my Angels are unstoppable at the moment. Shaun just has managed to pop two tanks and just shaken and weapon destroy others, not a huge amount.

I've been more lucky taking out a Chimera with plasmas and pinning them not only can they not shoot they're also at the back of the board away from the fight which means they cannot threaten my melta squad which just killed the CCS. Both Russes are totaled thanks to furious charge and melta and the nearby melta unit on foot is probably not going to last another turn.

All I need to do is finish off those two plasma units, one is definately doable because a flamer unit is on the doorstep and the plasmas can only wreck the Razorback not assault after. There is still the melta unit inside the first immobilised Chimera but hopefully cover will save my bacon. After that I just have the squad on the objective to deal with along with Strakken and the squad in terrain which has dead written all over it.

Turn 5

Not a lot of movement from Shaun, in fact I don't think there is any!

Shooting I get my shield power off. Shaun plasmas the Razorback in front of him but smoke saves the day and leaves it as crew shaken. The left Manticore rains down immobilised another tank and scores weapon destroyed twice on the tank I immobilised in terrain. Strakkens unit plasmas the Honour Guard, the Priest and two melta guys still live. The Librarians squad gets blasted by melta and lasguns I can't remember exactly what happens but the squad takes 25% damage and passes morale. Meltas from the first immobilised Chimera blast the squad in terrain which killed the CCS but they pass cover and armour saves.

My turn flamer Assault Squad bails out the tank ready to BBQ the Veterans in front. Librarian and Co move to BBQ the melta squad which just fired at them while the Honour Guard moves around the wrecked Leman Russ to avoid plasmas and maybe get to the Guard side objective but don't get good roll through terrain.

Shooting a melta fires at the melta Chimera can't remember the result. Plasma squad gets set ablaze and all die. Melta squad in terrain get blasted by fire leaving just the Sgt left who passes morale with double 1.

In assault Librarian and Assault Squad charge the solo Sgt, Librarian passes test for unleash rage and the Sgt is butchered.

We roll for turn 6 but it's game over. Blood Angels win claiming two objectives while Guard hold one.

Summary

Shaun is getting better but as he said to me it is his deployment. He kept his objective away from mine but really should have guarded it with the long range fire power instead of spreading his units. Then all his Chimeras should have come on the right flank using all the fire power to blast me to pieces and then get my objectives. He would have also benefited from popping smoke his first turn as well to give him to cover saves and also move the full 12" seems he wasn't able to shoot anything instead of hanging around at the back of the table first turn.

His list is getting better and isn't changing so much any more. List wise I think another Vendetta is needed and Strakken doesn't fit the plasma CCS as Strakken is combat and TBH no Guard units really do combat period.

Tactics wise I don't think putting meltas in a Vendetta is a good idea for that reason that the Vendetta needs to move and cannot use it's full fire power as it is bringing the meltas forward. I think that's probably about it, oh and Strakken as already mentioned as well.

This was the first of two games, would I win the second as well?

Nice report dude, looks like a cracking game on a really nice (if a little sparse) board. Sucks I couldn't make it :(

Thanks man. Was a good game but you should read the report for game 2! Hellfire! Board was a little sparse and I definately wouldn't call it a city .

Oh, Friday?

Nice report as usual. I am surprised that you managed to spot so many of his tanks with shooting on turn 1 through night fight. It isn't something to 'rely' on but usually helps keep the casualties down a bit.

Holy open plains in the center, Batman. Looked like it was going to be a turkey shoot. Great pics of some great painted models.

Ah crap, night fighting... erm, yeah

Yeah was a bit open I think perhaps should be some other scenery on there and maybe moved as the centre was like no mans land.
