Second game between Shaun at Warhammer World. We was on the same table again as no others were free or at least interesting ones so we just swapped sides to freshen it up a bit, the board we was on was nice anyway.


We agreed bastions would follow normal building rules, barricades would be block vehicles and give 4+ cover save or 2+ save if going to ground behind them and the landing pad 4+ invulnerable if shields are up or you can assault from a vehicle as if it was open topped - if the vehicle was on the pad

Deployment

Shaun won the roll off and replaced a objective near a bastion behind the barricades his side of the board mid field. I placed mine in a ruin near the bottom left corner of the board.

Shaun deployed first putting all his heavy weapons almost top right corner with a single Manticore on the objective. Everything else was clustered together on the left flank.

I deployed on the left side also, I was hoping to deploy on the right and just engage Shauns heavy support and it meant my tanks going cross country length aways over the board even 18" going fast this could be a problem. I put the Vindicators at the front along with the melta units making sure everything is in shield and feel no pain range.

* Tactical Notes

Looks like Shauns deployment has paid off as not only has he really forced me to deploy by my objective but also he has me in a cross fire when I go to claim his objective. I'm hoping I can seize the initiative and go first and won't have to take Shauns barrage of fire power first turn. Targets will be same as last game, Vendetta, Manticores and melta units.


Turn 1

I try to seize the initiative and fail. Shaun turbo boosts his Vendetta in the scout move towards my lines.

Shauns movement phase his tanks roll out and his Leman Russ start coming over. The Vendetta moves forward closer with the melta squad bailing out ready to blast some Marines.

I get both shield powers off but one Librarian rolls double 1 and takes a wound. The melta Veterans blast a Vindicator and wreck it. Vendetta fires all shots as it only move 6" and wrecks a Razorback. Leman Russes and Manticores fire and in the barrage another two Razorbacks are wrecked, damn my paint work man!! All the rest of the tanks pop smoke. Librarian with flamer Honour Guard gets pinned while trying to get out the wreckage of their tank.

My turn I move a melta unit through the crater of their wrecked tank towards the melta Veterans on foot while remaining tanks move about. Three tanks move across the board to Shauns objective; melta Honour Guard, Librarian with flamer unit and another flamer unit with a Priest.

Shooting the Manticore by the objective gets blown up. A Chimera with melta Veterans inside gets blown up. A Chimera with plasmas inside is destroyed. Vendetta gets nailed by lascannons, plasma and meltas and explodes. Melta squad on foot blasts the melta Veterans out the Vendetta, they pass pinning.

In assault melta squad charges and batters the Veterans but the squad of 10 stays locked in combat, crazy foos! At least stops my squad been shot at next turn!

* Tactical Notes

Woah! What a amazing first turn from both of us. I seriously thought WTF when Shaun nailed four of my tanks but I managed to even the score with him, everything in sight was just getting blown up!

Right now Shaun has lost a Vendetta and Manticore so that's long range fire power minimised. I've got a melta squad tied up in assault which means they cannot shoot and my squad cannot be shot at plus I'm certain they will die this turn taking out another anti tank unit.


Turn 2

The last plasma Chimera right on the left edge of the table starts coming down with Strakken support as the melta CCS in front moves up. Plasmas blown out their tank last turn move towards the bastion where Shauns objective is. A Chimera with meltas inside moves into terrain and is immobilised.

Shooting I cast shield without any problems. Melta Honour Guard get blown out their tank. Another Razorback gets blown up by CCS, Strakken follows it up with mass plasma leaving just two Marines left who fail morale and fall back.

In combat my Assault Marines kill the melta Veterans via sweeping advance.

In my turn I move the last Vindicator forward so the battered Marine unit can falling back can regroup and then hold my objective. I move the flamer Honour Guard forward but they still get bogged down in terrain. Librarian with flamer Assault Squad move forward towards the Guard objective staying near the Honour Guard who manage to run a whole 1" towards the Leman Russes. I move the last two Razorbacks with squads inside towards the immobilised Chimera, one is a melta unit the other flamer with Priest - melta squad bails out mostly in terrain.

Shooting Vindicator blasts and explodes the last plasma Chimera, squad takes damage doesn't fall back but is pinned. Melta squad which killed the Veterans explodes a melta Chimera. Melta squad which just bailed out the tank manages to crew stun the immobilised Chimera. A melta squad blasts the CCS Chimera and explodes it leaving just the Commander standing who passes morale.

In assault my melta Assault Squad charges and smashes the remaining Veterans from the explosion, they are all killed. I keep the Assault Squad in terrain as they are surrounded by melta and plasma.

* Tactical Notes

Holy crap! This turn I've managed to take out another three tanks and muller one in close combat. Shaun has wrecked another one of mine and depleted a squad, but they still hang in there good job they have ATSKNF!

I'm hoping I can move the Librarian and flamer squad up so they can park by the barricade and claim Shauns objective while the melta Honour Guard moves up and blows the Leman Russes to kingdom come. After the Russes only the Manticore which really worries me, three melta squads are down and limited plasma is left.


Turn 3

Shaun moves his plasma unit on foot near the bastion inside it which are now tucked away safe and sound and holding their objective. The other plasma unit moves through the crater from their tank but don't get far. Strakken moves his Chimera forward and immobilises it in terrain. Melta squad gets out the stunned Chimera and moves towards the bastion.

Shooting I pass shield with both Librarians. Strakken blasts the melta squad which killed the Commanders unit and wipes them out with mass plasma. Meltas fire from a Chimera at my melta Assault Squad in terrain but only kill a single Marine thanks to cover saves. Leman Russes blast Librarians Razorback but just shake it thanks to poor rolls to hit and on the damage chart.

Angels turn I move the Librarian and Honour Guard up ready to charge Strakkens tank. Melta unit moves through terrain to blast the Chimera which shot at them. Operational Razorback moves into terrain by the objective and the two Marines get inside for protection. Priest and flamer squad bails out to tackle the melta squad from the stunned Chimera who are hiding behind the wreck of another. Librarian and flamer squad move up 12" in the Razorback and bail out ready to unleash flamer through the firing port on the bastion as the Honour Guard moves to the Leman Russes.

I run the Honour Guard as they're not in 2D6 melta range and that's what I need for av14, they hide by a ruin. Flamer blasts in the bastions fire port and kills four Guardsmen. Lascannons blast out and score weapon destroyed on the last Manticore. Melta squad blasts the Chimera of the squad which shot at them and scores immobilised. Flamer unit with the Priest BBQ the Guardsmen with meltas who bailed out their tank last turn, leaving just the Sgt left who passes morale.

In assault Librarian and Honour Guard charge Strakkens Chimera but just score weapon destroyed taking the heavy flamer. Melta squad charges the Chimera and scores weapon destroyed and immobilised, the heavy flamer is lost. The solo Sgt is slaughtered and the squad consolidates towards the bastion.

* Tactical Notes

The gak is seriously going down in this game with stuff exploded all other the place and people dying. I haven't done to bad this turn losing just a squad, Shaun has come off the same more or less losing a squad in assault but he's got two Chimeras in tricky situations though both squads can still fire which is a worry to me!

I'll move the melta Honour Guard up and hopefully they will be in melta range now unless Shaun gets a good move for lumbering behemoth and moves away. I hope my flamer can deal more damage and get the squad out the bastion, though they have plasma and I suspect my Blood Angels might be on limited time. It's all coming down to the wire!!


Turn 4

The battered plasma unit on foot moves into terrain where the ruin is based on my objective. The Russes move forward for some strange reason...I think that's about it as nothing else can either move or is dead.

Shooting the plasma unit in terrain fires plasma at the Honour Guard, they get cover but they still take damage which Strakken follows up the volley leaving just the Librarian standing. Meltas blast the Assault Marines out their immobilised Chimera and kill just a single Marine thanks to bad dice rolls. Leman Russes blast the Razorback by the bastion scoring immobilised on it. Plasma squad inside the bastion blast the Librarian who luckily got the shield power in use, only the flamer Marine and Librarian is left who has a single wound thanks to plasma wound - they pass morale.

In assault the single Librarian uses krak grenade on Strakkens tank but doesn't do anything if I remember right. The melta squad uses krak grenades on the Chimera and just scores weapon destroyed along with stunned.

In my turn I move the melta Honour Guard up to melt me some Leman Russes as the flamer and Librarian move around the bastion to actually sit on the objective. Flamer squad with Priest runs towards the bastion while their empty tank moves up towards it. Razorback holding the two Marines moves so within 3" of my objective.

Shooting melta squad pops the Chimera, squad inside takes damage and falls back. Plasma unit in terrain gets blasted by the Razorback on the objective leaving just a single guy left who gets smacked by a Vindicator shell landing on target, he fails cover save and dies. Flamer blasts the Guardsmen but doesn't kill them all. Melta Honour Guard scores weapon destroyed on one Leman Russ. Lascannons blast the bastion with the Guardsmen in but do nothing.

In assault Honour Guard charge the Russes and wreck one and weapon destroy the other. Librarian puts a krak grenade on Strakkens tank I can't remember the result.

* Tactical Notes

Such a immense battle going on, if I can hold off Strakken and make sure my Angels get on Shauns objective I might just pull a win off. At least the plasma unit close by has been taken care of and the melta squad is falling back so no need to chase after them as they are under minimum strength and if they did regroup (thanks to Strakken) they won't get by my objective.

My plan is to just blast Strakkens Chimera and assault him and hold him up if I can while the flamers move up and blast through the bastion with Razorback and Honour Guard support.


Turn 5

Not a lot of movement from Shaun except the squad failing back. The single Russ moves back out the way .

Strakkens unit plasmas the solo Librarian to death. The squad inside the bastion follows suit and kills the Librarian and flamer Marine. The Russ blasts the Honour Guard with heavy flamer killing a melta Marine.

My turn I move up with the Honour Guard and the flamer unit coming the other side of the bastion. Honour Guard blasts it with melta and it is wrecked, squad passes pinning test. Razorbacks follow it up with mass plasma rapid fire and lascannon shots the squad is destroyed leaving the objective to the Blood Angels.

We roll for turn 6 and it doesn't happen. Blood Angels win by a whisker holding both objectives.

Summary

Awesome game! Each turn we was taking chunks out of each other especially the first turn, both our dice was on fire eahc giving as good as we got. I just cannot believe the amount of tanks which exploded during the game. If I remember right I had three Razorbacks left, depleted Honour Guard, full flamer squad with Priest, depleted squad holding the objective and depleted melta Assault Squad and that was it. I think Shaun had Strakken in Chimera, solo Commander, immobilised Chimera, weapon destroy Leman Russ and weapon destroyed Manticore.

This game Shaun did a lot better setting up a cross fire with his heavy support and then all his Chimeras. His objective I first thought would have been better on the shield for the invulnerable save but now that I think about it where it was was ok as it forced me to move up under fire. Then he had the perfect bunker to sit in and hold the objective and to be fair it was only a fluke melta shot which took him out. If that melta shot hadn't of done the job he could have unleashes plasma and killed the remaining Honour Guard and still held his objective more than likely.
