Walk into a crowd. See industrial expanses laid out far away. See ash wastes far beyond that. See people. These are the rich. The successful. The respected. They live above those far below. They have better lives, longer lives, healthier lives. Now focus. A school. Prodigious, desirable. Walk closer. See the beauty of humanity, emotions ripple.across the canvas of reality. Pick one. Step closer. Look at him. See him. Know him. Become him. Step into his shoes, see his past. See through his eyes, his life.

998, M41. One week before orks enter Armaggedon system.

"Hi. For those who don't know me I am Reuvahn. I would consider myself fairly intelligent and like to read.". Sitting, I internally winced. The start of a new school year was never easy, but the icebreakers were always painful. I knew that I was lucky to be able to go to school and that I was fortunate to be up here, not an underhiver. All the same, could the teachers come up with a worse way to introduce us to any new classmates we had? I observed them. There were my old friends Nehklaus and Hirroson. There were Benjimus and his friend whose name escaped me momentarily. There were Nehklah and Allysiah. Classes were organized by the tower we lived in and age but nothing else. Looking out over the impressive docks of Helsreach, I sighed. Two more years. Two years before I had to choose between Imperial Navy and Adeptus Mechanicus. These were where I could go, as they repeatedly cropped up in recommendations and seasonal reports to my parents. There were two new students. Alexandrus and Jannifar. That made 9 of us. A sizable number. Our parents were all fairly high up in industrial or shipping industries and children are rare among such couples. For a single apartment tower, there were a lot of us. I sat and payed attention to the lesson, not a care in the world. Helsreach glinted in the light of the day. It looked impenetrable, undefeatable. An unscheduled disturbance in the warp a week way was determined to prove me wrong.

(Any resemblance to persons living who I know is in all honesty quite intentional. If you know me, and by the badly changed names you will if you do, PM me to let me know if you are unhappy with this)

Alexandrus and Jannifar fit right in. They were obviously not native to this planet, with a different skin tone and facial structure. Alexandrus was as intelligent as I was and Jannifar didn't seem too far off. They both had flatter broader noses and their skin seemed to be less loose than ours. Not that it mattered. Tuning out from the teacher as she spoke of the Second war for Armaggedon, I looked at Nehklah. She was, as far as I was concerned, beautiful. Chestnut hair that barely came to her shoulders that was always intricately tied up. Dainty nose and equally dainty skin. But her eyes...her eyes were the best bit. Gray-blue and deep as the ocean. Mechanics would never allow emotions like this. One more strike against Mechanicus. Sitting up, I took notice as the teacher began speaking of Hive Hades.

Commissars are orphans...
The schola Progenium trains them to be Commissars from an early age. That said it is concievable for the classes to mix in certain lessons (Faith studies or something similar) which could be your setting but the Mechanicus thing would have to go...
The new people could be transfers from another Schola that had been destroyed for some reason or just shut down.
