Been away from Dakka for well over a year, and missed the community very much, gotta love life...

Anyway, thought I would post some of the things I've done in my absence.
Painted a thousand points worth of these Tyranids for a buddy of mine, his only instruction being..."Amber Carapace".....ooooookay.

Seven washes and a glosscoat later and this is the result.

The Parasite

Hope you guys like em.

Looking sharp, man. I dig the build-up of white on the 'nids' bodies.

looks really cool, it's a very stark but good contrast, I currently can't decide between chaos and tyranids but these added a notch to the "tyranid" column

These are neat, but go Chaos-either Death Guard or Iron Warriors!

I love the contrast. The orange is extremely vibrant. The only problem I have is that I feel like a few bits on the body should be a different color.

Looks like you Dry-brushed every model? But, to be honest, no complaints. They look great, I love the contrasts. Your Genestealer looks BRUTAL! the white makes his wrinkles/musculature pop, and it's poppin with fear.

Not bad. Flesh is a bit chalky, but the color choice is rather nice IMO.

Love the color vibrance and the way you used textures to give a very striking appearance with the gray drybrushed bodies and the smooth yet very bright red-orange chitten armor.

Thanks for the comments guys.

The bodies on every model were dry-brushed. It seemed the easiest way to get the effect I wanted in the shortest amount of time. I painted the entire 1000 points in five days, and with the carapace taking forever, I decided to go quick and easy with the bodies.

I have yet to find a way to lose the chalky feel of dry-brushing aside from coating it with a wash (or forgoeing it and blending), and I didn't want to darken the color at all, I actually don't mind the chalky feel in some cases, as I feel it gives a dirty/gritty feel to the model.

Thanks again for the supportive comments!
