Played my first game of BFG recently, then came online to research a bit more. Found the 2010 FAQ and noticed it also makes substantial changes to the core rulebook as published on GWs website.

So my question is, who produces the BFG FAQs and how widely accepted are they in BFG communities?

Also, what is the aim? To clarify rules? To make the game more balanced? To keep it fresh?

Excuse me if my question is offensively noobish, but my cursory searches for an answer didn't give me a clear idea.

BFG FAQ 2010 is produced by the High Admirality. The BFG rules committee.

3 people appointed by GW (several years ago) to maintain the FAQ and develop new rules etc.

FAQ2010 was created in close contact with the community.
Pretty good.

BFG subsection has a lot on it. eg everything.

FAQ is to clarify rules, adjust some point cost flaws, and add better balance when possible.

Thanks for the reply.

So does that make the FAQs official? Or, at least, near-universally accepted?

As close to official as you can get. Most people still playing BFG at least lurk the forums and so will know of the FAQ and probably use it.
As the committee was appointed by GW, they still have a certain amount of input and do have the authority to write for the GW site. Someone at GW just needs to approve it and put it on the website. With everything going well, the 2010 FAQ and amended fleet lists should be on the GW site and be official shortly.

And really, the 2010 FAQ seems like a pretty good one and goes along way toward eliminating the few balance issues and the like that were left after Armada came out. Basically, I can't imagine it being too much of a hard sell to a potential opponent.
