Infinity looks bloody awesome. Suck it GW

Im going to be ordering a starter army of PanOceania and YuJing, and Miyamoto Musashi (He's for a mate)

So me and some mates can do a 3 way battle
Pan vs YuJing vs Miyamoto

Im just wondering what the fluff is like? Its going to take me ages to remember the names of the Pan army, never mind the YuJing army, so im going to be naming them each individually.

I also want the 2 armies to be CC orientated

So for PanOceania I was going to get the Military orders box, Teutonic Knight blister and Croc man (Does he come with that awesome looking holo display effect?!)

And YuJing I was going to get The Imperial Service box, a ninja blister and Oniwaban

They seem like it would be even. Is it based on a point system? How many models would be an average army? How long would they usually take to deliver?

Anyway, I wont be playing with them for a while, they just look like they are so much more fun too paint then space marines

Toastedandy, I see you've an Irish flag beside your avatar.

If you're in Ireland there's about 25 Infinity players now. http://www.infinity-ireland.org has a mailing list with 16 people to organise games, and details of upcoming events.

There's also a link from that site to a new Infinity forum on the Wargaming Ireland site.

Plus I'll be running another Infinity beginners event in Dublin on July 23rd. Details on Infinity Ireland too.

If you're not in Ireland, then, never mind )

To your questions:
The Infinity site has a free online builder so you can total up the points of any purchases you're thinking of. Average army size is 9 to 10 models as 10 is a full combat group. A REALLY high number of models might be 16 - two combat groups of 8.

It is indeed. I ran an Infinity event with 15 players there 2 weekends ago.

They have a good range of Infinity models in stock, and at a reasonable price.

Good f'ing luck with the CC. I play Aridana, and they're probably the most overall CC oriented army in general, and I've had absolutely no success at it. Generally, you're going to get shot before you get close and if by some dint of luck you get into it, your opponent can use his BS or CC skill depending on what CC weapon he uses. So that solid 16 or so CC you have against your opponents CC of 12? Yeah, the guy your charging has a BS 15 and will be using his pistol, so boom, headshot, thank you try again. The Pan Oceanian knights might have a better time of it, since they have better armor and have a bit better stats than my CC guy's, but just be wary of the ones that have "Impudent" or "Fury" in their stat line. More or less, these guys always have to be going towards the enemy, even when its more prudent to stay put and wait for support. Fury, if I remember correctly, this happens after the character causes a wound, but still annoying.

Ah yeah but the Knights looks so cool!
I was thinking of either getting Shock Army of Acontecimento box or the military order box, I have no idea what any of that lingo means, but if the rule of cool applies, I think I will do grand

That's not the case, check out - http://infinitythegame.wikispot.org/Pistol
"In Close Combat it is used with the CC Attribute, not with BS".

As you run into CC with someone they can attempt to shoot you with any gun they have, assuming they see you coming, but once in CC, it's CC weapons.

You're right that CC is really a back-up plan in Infinity though. Weapons are more realistic than in many other games, so rifles and rockets beat running at some guy with a knife There are some fun exceptions like impersonators, or throw-away 5 point warbands, or some of the thermo-optic ninjas.

The military orders can fight in close combat but TBH you'll likely be killing them with all the Panzerfausts or spitfires they carry instead before you reach them. Or dying to your opponents guns.

That I know of anyway We only had 3 that I knew of 6 months ago and the population is only around 4 million people. Gamesworkshop dominate the market with Privateer Press second. Infinity is growing rapidly though.

That's the way to pick your army imo - by what you think looks cool. The Military Order are good. You'll mostly be doing good BS shooting, with resilient guys, with a back-up of CC.

I would actually call Yu-Jing the hands down best CC forces since pretty much everything they have has good CC and most everything has Martial Arts. Some clarifications:

- Yes, CC is very difficult to achieve, but units that are CC specialist usually have a trick to help them get there or have appropriate point costs. Not sure what Ariadna CC unit you are referring to, but there is several Ariadna units that should have zero issue making CC.
- If locked in combat you must always use your CC still regardless of pistol or cc weapon
- If you charge someone and they have LoS to you as you charge they can use their BS to shoot at you before you make B2B contact (realistic)
- Impetuous is basically like Rage from 40k except it's a free order and typically very useful for the models that have it since their job it to get from point A to B as fast as possible. With Frenzy the guy acts normal till he causes a wound, then becomes Impetuous.
